Find Ancestors

Hi. (cant find the post I made earlier and it seems to be disappeared!) I am helping my friend, Michelle to search for her family. She is a member of this website but not a standard member.

Here it goes.

I managed to find her grandad, Maurice Edward Long's birth and death information and found his mother's maiden name was Challis. My friend's mum texted her with her Great grandma's name was Florence, she born in around 1905 and married to James A Long in 1923 and he born in 1903. She would like to know any more information to their parents.

She also would like to track down her grandma, Sylvia Dunbar (her adopted maiden name) and she married to Maurice Edward Long, and she was adopted by Dunbar family and she would like to find her real family. I couldnt seem to find their marriage information on Ancestry.

I think that Florence is more likely to be one of these two.

From the date of birth (Feb. 1903) on your Florence's death registration, she would have been 8 years old when the 1911 census was recorded?

The 1911 found has her born in Soham so you will need to check out the birth to see if there is another Florence born Soham.

Soham seems to be covered by Newmarket registration district.

Hmmm, thats what i said to my friend that florence possible born in newmark area.

A question, how can you search for adoptee's real parents or impossible at this time?

I would think that only the adoptee can do that - unless of course you know the names of the birth parents.


If that's the correct death posted for your Florence, then if looks like she was born in Maidenhead NOT either the Florence Eva or Florence Elizabeth born in Newmarket. Your Florence gave the middle initial "A" when she married James AND her death registration gives her middle name as Ada.
