I managed to download the records page and I too noticed the bit on the bottom and wondered whether or not another child had been born. I have not as yet searched for a death because I have been trying to advance further back with this family which is causing me so much grief. It's proving an absolute nightmare and I have not advanced backwards from the 1881 although I have tried a variety of spellings for Pullen. However, curiosity got the better of me when I saw on 1881 'wife's mother' - no name but also saw Louisa Young aged 30 described as sister. I wondered if this was Emily's sister or a married sister of William but started hunting. I have found a Louisa Young b. 1851 (correct year) with a sister Emily b 1856 (correct year) with parents William Young and Louisa his wife. I have made a note just in case these prove to be Emily Pullen's parents.

Thank you Adeline - I didn't have time before I went out :-)
There wasn't much really of any help to us in the rest of the records.
He was a Driver in the Army and his trade was down as Motor (Lorry?) Driver and I was very amused to see that on 17th September, 1915 he was ordered to 'forfeit 3 days pay for exceeding the speed limit 8 miles per hour, contrary to orders' - .......... 8 MILES PER HOUR !! -They certainly didn't move very quickly in those days did they ?? :-D
Dea x
P.S. - What did you make of the feint writing below the children's birth details? - It looks like Alfred James - ? called 22/8/95 ?? - Another child who died perhaps ??

Thank you so much Dea - seems they told 'porkies' on 1901 and 1911 census !! After so many children, I wonder hat prompted them to eventually marry ???
Also, on 1881 census where the Pullen family is down as Pullon with an o, there are two kiddies aged 3 and ? months described as nurse child ??? Would this be that they are being 'wet-nursed' by Mrs. Emily Pullen. I wouldn't have thought so as she has a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old herself !! If not, what is meant by a nurse child. Or could it be something as simple as being 'looked after' by the family in a similar way as we have child-minders today ?
I too have got to shoot off to work in a short while, but will log on later today. Thank you all, you have set me on my way after my mammoth struggle. Much appreciated.

You are in luck - Ancestry has his Service Records which confirm that the 1911 family is correct and that he married Emily Edith on 17th February, 1913.
British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 about George James Brown Name: George James Brown Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877 Age at enlistment: 38 Residence: 14 Rendle Street, Westbourne Park W Document Year: 1915 Regimental Number: 047513 Regiment Name: Army Service Corps Number of images: 13 I have to go out in a minute but will have a look through when I get back for anything useful.

If the 1913 marriage is the correct one, it wouldn't be the first time a marriage has taken place after many of the children have been born. I have two in my own tree!

Thank you everyone - I had been away from the computer answering the phone and had not seen all your replies. Thank you so much for really going the extra mile to try and help. I am going to write it all down now and really study it.

You could hopefully get George's father's name and occupation from his marriage certificate. That would narrow the search

Thank you all for your replies. 1. I was given the surname of Emma by her grand-daughter. It is this grand-daughters son I am trying to help with this.
2. Adeline - thank you for that information. It looks a very good prospect to me even though on the 1901 census this couple have two children and by 1911 they actually had 7 !!
I was wondering with the name Sheward being put forth if Emma had been previously married but as she is only 23 on 1901 census with two kiddies age 1 and 2 months, I am beginning to doubt she was married before.
I'll keep the info you have given me in mind and continue wracking my brains. Thanks again.
