My g'grandmother was Jane Eliza Rowsell and she married a Richard Crowther a private in the 35th regiment on April 14th 1869 when she had become a widow. Richard was29 yrs old and my g /grandmother was 36 years old, any help would be greatly appreciated to find any relatives.

Did you mean she was a widow when she married Richard Crowther? So Rowsell was not her maiden name?

Surely you must have the marriage certificate since you have the exact date and their ages? If so it must have her maiden name and father's name?

Janes name before Rowsell was Downer when she married my g/grandfather, but where or when my g/greatgrandfather died we don't know they were in India my g/grandfather was in the army but we don't know whern she became a widow but my grandfather was born in India in1857

Mary, this should have been added to the thread not just sent to me.

So - all the info found appears to be relevant - some acknowledgment would be good

I would just like to thank you all for your input. All the info found so far is relevant but part of what I already have through comprehensive research of my own. I have info about Jane until her death in 1888 and I have Richard's census information up to and including 1911. Ellen Jane Crowther was Jane and Richard's daughter, she married Charles Gladden Reeve in 1889. I have now found them on the censuses. The 1911 shows them living in Portsmouth, (her mother's family home) having been married for 21 years and they had no children. My research will now take another route.
