Thanks Jan it doesn't give sufficient info to know if its our Esther. I am not aware though that the family migrated from the London area to Kent.

There is a probate record on Ancestry for an Esther Hewitt in 1921 - I don't have full membership, maybe someone else could have a look?

Thanks Jan .I did buy that cert some time ago but that lady was an Esther Martha and the informant was her daughter who isn't one of our Hewitt family.

Have just realised too that Rose reg her dads death when she was only c8 years old and Eliza s death at aged 9 , very young to be an informant.

Certs received today. Doesn't help when they were marrying within the same family !!lol

Eliza Matilda Hewittb c 1886 was the recorded on her death cert as the daughter of Charles Hewitt deceased however her baptism of 1886 show her to be the daughter of Frederick and Esther Hewitt.
Eliza died in 1907 of TB

Rosetta Ada (Rose)was the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann too ,as found on the baptism.

May Louisa Mary Ann Hewitt 1891 was the daughter of Frederick Hewitt and Esther formerly Batchelor nee Emons. Fred and Esther didn't in fact marry till 1893 although Fred reg the birth as if they were already married.


Charles (David) Hewitt did die in 1906. daughter Rose was the informant. She didn't record his second name of David. That breaks down that brick wall.

Now to find when Esther died !!

I did wonder if May & Rose were the daughters of Charles and Mary so would be nieces to Esther.

Looks too as if Esther took up with Fred way before she married him . I will get Eliza,s birth cert.

Its not being able to find the on the 1901 which is a puzzle.

Charles & Mary's son Frederick died in 1902 and Esthers eldest daughter was the informant . I checked the home address given for him on the 1901 but not living there I also checked the address given on the marriage cert of 1900 to Charles but they not there either.

Later found Esther on the 1901 living with her children from her marriage to John Batchelor.

James Batchelor born 1894 is Esther s grandson from her son Arthur Robert Batchelor s first marriage,

Arthur Robert was my mums dad ,and mum was his eldest child of his second marriage in 1909 to Jessie Sanson nee Ager

Could this be Charles' death? It would explain him not being with her...although she is described as married rather than widowed (but then in 1901 she is described as widowed and she had already married Charles?

Looks like Rosetta Ada Hewitt is the right one - thanks to baptism found by Kucinta. I can't see her 1901 though.

As for May, no idea. Searched for any possible May Hewitts born London, and apart from the one above this is all I have come up with:
