Hi Jude,
I have found a couple of death dates. Looking at Cupcakes reply for little Maud Marion saying daughter of George and Tryphena Dean. The two dates are for a George Dean death 1900 (NSW BDM) mother Elizabeth in Ryde NSW and George Dean death 1901 (NSW BDM) parents John and Elizabeth in Molong. A possibility. Lots to persue.

Hi Jude,
Its very hard when the ages are conflicting. The death in 1904, what a shame it does not fit. We still do not know, how, when or where he died. Alfred Barnstable his first child, and as you say going back very sparse. He married a Mary Fitzroy no birth date at the moment for her, marriage certificate parents unknown as on her death certificate. Maybe a foundling??? Her death certificate has her born in Fitzroy ? where her surname maybe came to being.
Thanks Jude

So the death in 1904 isn't him :-(

Still not convinced about the marriage to Tryphena....ages are wrong (if the ages are right if you get my drift).

The parents match the tree on A though it's pretty sparse going back - seems to concentrate on Barnstable

Hi Folks,
I have the marriage certificate of John George Dean and Elizabeth Simmons. Says he was born in London / age 30 years / Baker /Parents:
John Dean (Baker) and Elizabeth Brown. If that is correct he was born about 1826.
(1st child bith cert age is 34 in 1857 and born Luton, Bedfordshire and Elizabeth aged 19 years) What are the real ages?????
Elizabeth Simmons born Newbury, Berkshire / age 17 years / Spinster / Parents: John Simmons (Blacksmith) and Rachel Sargent.
Interesting to note that John Simmons signed as a witness. Back to the drawing board for immigration?????

Thanks Jude, understand that more certificates are required. Most times they show parents except for a few that decide (unknown) is an option. They also give occupations as well. And mothers maiden names. Birth and death certs the same. Will decide on 1904 death in due course. That is the only one that has come to light so far. Will also check out tree on A to see if related in any way. Some trees found but to date some direct descendants not listed.

I saw that death but discounted it as there is no suggestion anywhere who parents were. Only ref is in A tree John dean and Elizabeth Brown. Do they show fathers on Australian marriage certs? If so that's the starting point and will determine whether to pursue the death in 1904

It also says in the death notice (unfortunately no family with it) asks for Leighton papers to copy. Leighton in Bedfordshire.

Thanks Valerie that would make him about 81 years. Another certificate to persue.

Thankyou for the Death notice. I have been trawling through Trove looking for a death for John George as well. Did not have all his children, I do now.
Thanks to all who have been assisting me.

Could be possible that his parents were Irish living in Luton, Although the birth certificate of Alfred Barstable who was born in Geelong area -states born Luton, maybe he considered himself Irish.
Death certificate if could be found would piece a lot together.

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 17 Mar 2012 07:53

Elaine Report 17 Mar 2012 07:49

I have found, I think, his passage to Victoria in 1851 on the John Knox aged 28 years. Will have to check again as I must admit I forgot to check if he was a lone traveller or had family with him.
Did he use the name George?

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 17 Mar 2012 07:39

Looking at the second marriage - trees on A have him as born 1840 with no evidence so might not be him...I can't find him in electoral rolls either :-(

Elaine

Elaine Report 17 Mar 2012 07:38

I wonder if he went for a visit to England and never returned. 10 children from his son Alfred Barnstable and wife Mary.

Elaine

Elaine Report 17 Mar 2012 07:29
