James Taylor married Mary Ann Hackland in 1892 in Ross. This is definately the correct couple as Mary Ann Hackland is the right person linked to my family. 3 of the first children they had, my grandmothers 3 elder brothers were born in Ross, although the name William James Taylor comes into the frame on his death cerificate and also on the 1911 census. The date of birth was provided by my grandmothers youngest sister as 03.Nov. 1862.

Belinda, this looks promising the year of birth is slightly out, but I find that some dates and names are not always recoreded correctly.

I headed the post William james taylor as that is the name on the death certificate I have and that is the name his youngest child have provided the birth date at 03 Nov 1862. The Marraige certificate to Mary Ann Hackland who I can confirm is his wife lists him as James Taylor. I don;t know why, but whether William james or just james they appear to be the same person.

I am assuming it was Presteigne, Radnorshire, Wales, but checks locally for a birth certificate have proved negative. So I wonder if there is a place called Prestien, but I can't find one.
