Forget what Mike says about needing to buy her marriage certificate, the information I posted is taken from the actual certificate which is on Ancestry. Let me know if you want a copy.

Regarding Lucetta's birthplace, Bilston and Dudley registration districts have been interchangeable over the years.

Lucetta's father is not stated to be deceased on her marriage certificate, but that doesn't mean he was necessarily still alive. It just depends whether the question was asked or not.

Regarding her birthplace, the 1911 and 1901 census are consistent:

Not saying any info is wrong.
Just that you should check it out for yourself.

There appears to be some confusion over Lucetta's birthplace ( Hemsworth Yorkshire, Sedgley Shropshire, Dudley Staffordshire. )

You could do with knowing if father David was recorded as deceased on Lucetta's marriage certificate.

If not, he should be on the 1881 census.
If deceased you may be looking for Elizabeth as a Widow.


Also sister Harriet's birth cert would confirm the parents, and once you have a maiden name for Elizabeth you could find a marriage, which may or may not have been before Lucetta was born.

Rachel the info I posted for Lucetta aged 14 is where she was living on the1881 census.

It has her birthplace as Hemsworth Yorkshire so not sure the birth found in Staffordshire is her.

It could be that was the only Lucetta Jones birth found so it was assumed to be right.

Never take info from someone's tree.
If they have it wrong then you end up following the wrong line.

It could be that Lucetta or Louretta wasn't born Jones but assumed her stepfather's name.

First step is to buy her marriage certificate from the General Registry Office. (£9.25) quoting the reference numbers given on freebmd.

How do you find the deaths then? do you just keep searching their name and dob in free bmd and see what it throws up?

Yes Rachel, you'll find a lot of names get misspelt. That's half the fun of this hobby, trying to work out some elusive ancestor that has been transcribed wrongly!
