I am sure it is our Alice who went to Canada
.
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957

Name: Alice Harbach
Arrival Date: 1 Oct 1913
Birth Year: abt 1884
Birth Location: England
Birth Location Other: doderel (THIS IS NO DOUBT DODDERHILL)

But who was Mrs. Adams she went to stay with? She must have been a friend from home. Alice left Stephen Adams her estate. Was he Mrs. Adam's son or some other relative? Was he the father of the child Alice was carrying when she died? There are never ending questions in this search.

If you're interested look up the ship CARMANIA especially the 1913 voyage that Alice took. It's another interesting piece of history

Thank you all. That census find was one in a million. Let's hope you all have such good luck with your own family trees.

Her birth certificate would sort it for you...and yes a fortuitous error by the enumerator!

After looking through a very messy 1911 census form through stronger glasses I can certainly see Alice Harbach and Ellen East Harbach both crossed out of the form because they were not living at their parents address in 1911. I am grateful that the errors were made. I am now sure that we have found Alice.

I think that from everyone's reports Alice, like me, found a home in Canada. I do hope that she didn't die so soon after arriving though.

Thank you all.

I'm still not sure, Mary. She could be, but I'm not certain.

Alice is the daughter of fred and elizabeth nee gibbs as stated on earlier post for them in 1911.

Don't you agree Dianne?

Thank you all. This is helpful. Now I wonder if Alice's mother could be this Elizabeth, daughter of Harry and Jane Harbach on my tree. She was still single in March of 1901 but married Alfred Eades later that same year.

Yes "Shirley" that's the only birth I can find...the christening I found is a bit later though! Though Bromsgrove, Dodderhill, Droitwich and Wychbold are all within a stone's throw of each other. So as I said it seems really possible that she is Fred and Elizabeth's daughter though why on earth a sevn year old would seemingly be with her father's sister at the age of seven...and judging from 1901 census this was a permanent arrangement rather than a visit... :-S

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 28 Jan 2012 08:00

or maybe not...there is only one birth for an Alice ...so maybe Alice Elizabeth is your Alice
This is Fred and Elizabeth in 1891

Fred Harbach 35
Elizabeth Harbach 32
Fred Harbach 5
Margerate Harbach 3
Ellen Harbach 1
Samuel Harbach 47

Samuel the boarder is the correct age to be Elizabeth's brother (from 1851 census)and therefore Fred's brother...but why would Alice be with her aunt at that age?

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 28 Jan 2012 07:44

Reckon this another lot of Harbachs....Fred in 1881 with Elizabeth mother and she's too old...and in 1891 with wife Elizabeth and children....back to drawing baord! :-(
