The incoming Queensland passenger lists on ancestry only go up to 1912.
Someone else may be able to suggest another source of records.
You could always try searching immigration records on the National Archives of Australia site. I'm not even going to attempt Smith!

Found it!
http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=41080
You can view his naturalisation records.
EDIT, Oh I am sorry, it appears to be a different Alfred Smith. However, it's the only one that came up in the search.

Not sure if you have seen this:
The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.) Tues. 29/8/1933
ESPLOSION OF GELIGNITE
Young Man's Leg Blown Off.
Wangaratta, Monday - An explosion of gelignite in a camp on the Rose River, Cheshunt at half past 7 o'clock this morning inflicted shocking injuries on Alfred Smith aged 26 years. Smith, who is a young Englishman, employed by C.A. Westneat, Contractor, was in charge of explosives. It is surmised that he was warming gelignite in his tent before using it when the explosion occurred. His right leg was blown off and his face and forearm were shattered. After receiving first aid, he was hurried to the Wangaratta Hospital. His condition is very serious.
The Argus, Thurs. 31/8/1933 - On the 28th August, 1933 (result of explosion of gelignite), Alfred Charles Richard Smith, an Englishman, relatives unknown. Inserted by Mr. and A. Westneat and fellow workers Tom, George, Alex and Attie.
I couldn't find a funeral notice. What a tragic death of this poor young man. So sad.
