Find Ancestors

On 1891 census, living Woodfield Cres, London, I hsve William Chandler 46 b. Devizes, Jessie(nee Bruce) wife 50 b. Dundee?, William 19 son b. Paddington and George 17 son.

After a long long thorough search on 1881 census I find: H.M.Prison, Frances Street, Westminster, London - Jessie Chandler 36 Prisoner, laundress, b. Edinburgh. This is the only Jessie Chandler born Scotland and living London that I can find. However, search as I may I cannot find her husband William or children William and George who would be abt 9 and 7 respectively. At present I have no idea who William Snr's parents are so cannot look for them to see if the children are being cared for by them. Anyone any brilliant ideas as to how I can locate them as they must be somewhere ! Thanks

Update - I have found William/Jessie on 1871 census but this time William's place of birth says Paddington not Devizes !!! Also, just below their entry on the results sheet of Ancestry for 1871 there is another Jessie Chandler married to an Andrew whose year of birth would appear to match more accurately to the Jessie in prison ! So the search goes on for the family in 1881 - I will try Chandler without the l. Thank you

Evening everyone - I am still searching for this family on 1901 census and make the silly mistake of starting a new thread asking for assistance. However, I was advised to continue on this thread. So, I will try again. Since this original thread I have tried everything I can think of. I have tried just William Robert - no surname - and place/date birth. No luck, did the same but with just Chandler. Again no luck. Then I tried both William and Jessie CHANDER. nothing. I then turned to Jessie and did the same. Jessie(no surname), date/place birth - nothing. Kate the mother with small daughter I can account for as she is in service, but I am at a loss now as to what else I can do or what other surname variations I could use. Has anyone any ideas or should I just accept that maybe they really have been missed off the census altogther ? Thanks for reading this.

I think the 1901 census Andrew posted is your Kate Chandler....wife of William Robert......Which ties in with the 1911 census..........


I did try and find William Robert Chandler and his Mother Jessie in the 1901 census Margaret.........but unfortunately, i had no luck finding them either!! :-S
