My thoughts are are Elizabeth Brearley is the daughter of John and Martha Brearley of Holmfirth. I think she may have knocked off a couple or so years off her age. On the 1871 and 1891 census it clearly says that her place of birth is Holmfirth, whilst on others it says Penistone. She has named two of her children John and Martha, not proof but a possible clue. Whilst Brierley and Brearly are not too popular a name, it is possible that the two were not related as there are quite a few in the neighbouring area with both spellings.-jl |

Not sure whether you have the detail of John Brearley of Holmfirth but if not I have found details of a John Brierley born 2nd Dec 1798 baptised at Lane Congregational Chapel Holmfirth on 9th Dec 1798 father John Brierley and mother Hannah - abode Netherthong. There is another entry with parents of the same names for a Jabez Brierley in 1797 with the abode of Oldfield which is near Honley Huddersfield. If this is the right baptism for the John Brearley of Netherthong it might help you establish the original family and the location from where they originate.-jl |
