Hi I was just wondering if anyone can help me. I am trying in vain to find out information about my grandfather who until now remains a bit of an enigma. I know he was born to an elizabeth Hudson ( net braider) on the 15th april 1909 at 4 coopers place waller street Registration district sculcoates county of kingston upon hull. She lived at 7 warwick terrace warwick street hull. I have later records for him in the military where he lists his father as seaman and has the name richard hill.!!!! and also of his first marriage to his first wife where his surname has changed from hudson to hill, but its his childhood I can't seem to get anywhere with and he would never talk about it with his family. There is no father on the birth certificate. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me as Im not very experienced in the search techniques. |

Could she be Eliza Braider aged 13 on the 1891 census, living with her stepfather William Hartley, mother Serena Hartley , brother Albert Braider 15, Edith Braider 8 & Sam Hartley 2 |

Above 1911 - not likely to be him. I've tried every which way but can't see him as Hudson or Hill: |

This appears to be them in 1901. 1911 does say married 2 years, 1 child born and still living. |

Thankyou to everyone for their efforts in helping me. If I can clarify anything let me know. The occupation of my granfathers mother Elizabeth is a net braider. On his birth certificate she was elizabeth hudson at the previous address and he was registered as peter hudson born at the other address given. I wish I could provide more info especially on her but this is the brick wall I have found myself up against. I did wonder about the Richard and emma hill as I too found this and wondered how a couple in their fifties would have a 2 year boy!!!!! Rumour has it that he was either left/abandoned and that he went to a boys catholic school all in the sculcoates area. All he ever muttered about his family was that his mother was a tart and his father a seaman, not very nice but he wouldnt talk about any of his childhood and we never knew why his surname changed from huson to hill. I have info on him in the military and on these documents he has picked up the middle name of Richard which is why I wondered if Richard and Emma were a link. |

This doesn't help but I think this is Peter and his brother John. Can't think why they are with young Peter though. |
