Find Ancestors

Has anyone any suggestions on how I might find this marriage ?
James Beattie and Elizabeth Runnicles between 1881 and 1882. I can find nothing on freeBMD, Findmypast or Scotlandspeople.
They were living in Blackwall, Carlisle, Cumberland, although Elizabeth was born in Layer Marney, Essex and James in Scotland.
The 1911 Census states that they have been married for 31 Years.
On the 1881 Census James was still single.

Could Elizabeth have been married previously?

I don't think so, as on a birth cert that I have of one of the children, it gives her maiden name as Runnicles.

The birth certificate gives the maiden name. If she has been married before you are looking for a marriage of James Beattie to Elizabeth xxx.

so probably from a marriage. And if marriage claimed 31 years in 1911, then 1879/1880 should be correct years.

I wonder if I have been researching the wrong family, as in 1881, I have James Beattie as a Servant age 22 Coachman domestic, b. 1859 Irongray, Kirkcudbright. Living at The Oaks, Millom, Bootle, Cumberland.

I first found this James Beattie as named as a son in Robert Beattie's Will ( my gt grandfather's brother ).
Robert Beattie ( Farmer, living in Corsock, Irongray ) married Jane Dunn in May 1859 in Irongray, but they only had one daughter who died aged 7.
Robert Beattie had been suspended from his position as Licentiate of the UP Church in 1859 and then became a Farm owner.
There was an illegitimate birth in 1859 Corsock, Irongray, for a James Douglas, with mother Janet ( a servant ).
On the 1861 Census in Carsewell, Irongray, living with a Douglas family is a Janet Douglas 29 and a James Beattie 1 b.July 1859 Irongray ( Grandson )-- Landed Proprietor's son.
It's very involved isn't it !
