Can anyone help in finding marriage details of Jane Elizabeth Cottrell and William Taylor. I have a birth certificate for William Charles Taylor b1876 in Bermondsey, London which states that the parents were William Taylor and Jane Elizabeth Taylor nee Cottrell. Unfortunately, I do not know where Jane or William were born but he was a Commercial Traveller in 1876 which narrows it down a bit! As mentioned earlier, they were in Bermondsey in 1876 and my father was also born there in 1918.

Looking at the 1872 marriage then Jane Elizabeth Cottrell married William Trott

I do not have William and Jane on any census records. As William Charles was born in 1867 and his birth certificate reads Jane Elizabeth Taylor, nee Cottrell, I am assuming that they married before the birth of W.C.T. Unfortunately, I do not have a marriage certificate for William Charles Taylor to Sarah Cunningham (not my paternal Grandmother) but perhaps that should be my next port of call. The only problem is that it will just say father William Taylor and his occupation.

Yes, you have the right William Charles marry Sarah Ann Cunningham. At least I know that the father's name was William Isaac which is a great help.

Please accept my sincere apologies - in my original post I said that William Charles Taylor was born in 1876 when it should have read 1867.

The info on his marriage to Sarah Cunningham is correct.

I am not too sure about the 1881 census as it says his birth is 1871 not 1867.

My only thought is that William and Jane were quite old when they had William Charles. If it was Jane's second marriage, would she have used her maiden name or her married name on the marriage certofate, ie Brown?

Jane's father is given as Nathaniel John Brown in the marriage details and she also claims to be a spinster.

Nathaniel John Brown was a witness.

William Isaac Taylor is a plumber.

I think we can rule Jane Brown out as the birth certificate for W.C.T. in 1867 states mother's maiden name was Cottrell.

Maybe they didn't actually marry because they couldn't - one or both of them might have been married before, and had a spouse still living.
