You really need to find James on 1851 census to confirm his age and birthplace, otherwise we are using guesswork.

Just looking at Abrm. Boardman.......... looks like he could have been a proffesional witnesses.

Mark, you really need to see the parish records to be 100% sure to see if these look right. I would imagine John's occupation stayed the same or similar... so that maybe the area to concentrate on???

First entry lists father as Peter - so not mine

As Mike says - had they married in 1812 i would imagine they would have had quite a number of children upto 1820 +/= even if they had been married a couple of years before they started trying

Seems that there were children born prior to 1820!!!

There was always going to be too many options with a common name like Greenhalgh in Lancashire. ( I had an Uncle with that name )

You need to make sure you don't follow the wrong line just because it might fit.
