I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction, Joseph Greenhalgh is my GG Grandfather, he was born in 1841? in Tottington, Bury Lancs, and died in 1914 ( i know this is correct as I have seen the grave, his first wife was called Mary, (but Mary who?) I have trawled through lots of records and cannot seem to find out, she died in 1909.
he then married again to a Elizabeth. she died in 1941. :-(

Many thanks to Dea, KMF, George of Westbury, for all your help with Joseph Greenhalgh. You are a fantastic lot. Anne. x ;-)

Dea

Dea Report 14 Oct 2011 20:51

Hi Anne,

Your thanks are welcome but I don't think we have got you any further on this yet ???

I am going off soon but from what I looked at the othet day, I don't think that the Bowen marriage, or the Ashton marriage is the one you are looking for.

I am sure we could help you further if you could give a little more info on what you have.

Anne Report 16 Oct 2011 12:11

Sorry I have not answered sooner, all I know definitely is that he was born in approx 1841 in Tottington, he died in 1914, he is buried in Farnworth Cemetery in that grave is his wife Mary? she was also born in the Tottington area born same year, died in 1909, also in the grave is his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Greenhalgh born 1858 and died in 1941. aged 83 yrs.
In 1911 he his shown as living in Peel Street Farnworth, (as somone has already said,) he was 70, and Betty 53. and married 1 year, I did actually send for a certificate for James (my GG) Joes son, but I don't think it is the right one, it shows Joe as a beerseller in Dawes St, Bolton and his mother as Mary Ashworth, so that is where I have got that lead from.
As far as I know Joe was a mill mechanic for a while, I know, not alot to go on. Regards Anne. ;-)

Dea also the information you sent me on the 12th Oct at 1800 hrs is the correct family. Anne

lancashireAnn Report 16 Oct 2011 13:59

Hi Anne

you say that the info Dea gave you on 12th Oct is correct

In that info in 1871 Joseph is married to a Betsey and in 1881 to a Mary

I wonder if in fact Joseph was married 3 times

or is it complete coincidence (there are quite a few children Greenhalgh/Boardman but they cannot all be the same family as several were registered in one year)

if the marriage to Mary took place in the same church, the registrar would have to be present and one of these could be the marriage
