Find Ancestors

i have been researching the clough family tree on and off for 4 years, i have got so confused with dates , names and marriages that i fear i have got the wrong information on my tree - i am looking for someone who will find as much information as possible and correct my family tree for me - my father past away 4 years ago and its his tree i'm looking into - i would love to find out if i have any relations that are still linked in some way to my father and the place he grew up. many thanks for reading this

charles clough b - c1888 d - c1949 m jane greenwood/howard b c1887 d - 1957 - my grandparents (jane was married twice)

its here where i get abit mixed up -
james clough b - c1849 m mary farrow ?? b c 1847
they lived at roads farm in wardle until it was flooded in 1925ish
i'm getting confused with the children they had - i know my grandfather (charles) was 1 of them - then i have -
mary elizabeth b c1889
alice ellen b c1887
james b c 1886 d 1916 in the war in france
but now we've found another james born c 1886 and very much alive until 1951. and he married someone called alice - but we keep finding differant surnames.
i can remember visiting 146 ramsden road in wardle where i met a distant relation - this was in the 1970's
the names were Alice and ivy clough (sisters)

i would love to find out if the 2nd james wilfred belongs to my tree, whom he married and if the alice and ivy i met all those years ago do truely belong to my tree.

any help would be greatly appreciated

This looks like Charles Clough's birth registration ... Rochdale is the registration district that includes Wardle

He was born a little earlier than you thought

Thinks if James is a farmer would he not have been in a reserved occupation.

Only a James Clough died 1916 no middle name?

you really should not have posted 2 separate threads on the Clough family .............. especially when you know so few facts about them!


You are causing people to duplicate efforts in sorting out the information for you.


Please do remember that the people who are helping you, people like Lindsey, Flick and me, are just members like yourself, with perhaps more expertise than you, and certainly more knoeledge of where to look for information


Some of us can work wonders with the smallest bit of information, but you seem to be chasing will o'the wisps, based on very little information or even based on hearsay!

The problem of course is that Clough is NOT an uncommon name



I think you have to stop flailing around, and trying to make facts fit the script you would like.


You HAVE to buy some bmd certificates, to see if you can solve the problems.


Start by buying Charles Edward's marriage certificate ......... that will give you his father's full name


Then buy Charles Edward's birth certificate ...... that will give you his mother's maiden name, and confirm whether or not she was Mary Farrow

Then you might have to find the marriage of that James W that you say you have "found", and buy that one to ......... just to see whether or not the father


Lindsey is quite right, farming was a protected occupation in both wars, so you have to be very careful of determining whether or not the James Clough of Rochdale who died in 1916 was your James W Clough or not.


You need to find the British Commonwealth War Graves Registers, 1914-1918, where you might be able to find the gravestone record ..... that could tell you the next-of-kin of that James Clough, and determine whether he was yours or not.
