So all the "possible" births from above on freebmd....can find deaths for Henry and Maud explaining absence from censuses and for Ada explaining absence from the 1871 census ...and cannot find hide or hair of any of them in 1861

Yes GB, that's what worries me. It seems too much of a coincidence for there to be two Joseph and Letitias but where do Letitia, ada and henry disappear to?

GB - I think you've cracked it again with the Joseph Hodgson marriage. How did you access details of marriage without cert? Brilliant.

The Cocks family are on my mother's side. They were mainly undertakers living in Westminster and Fulham. The John Cocks I've found on the 1841 lived in Orchard Street, which is close to my other John Cocks (Rochester Row). I don't know if the 1841 John is definitely related to my family, but another lady who is also researching Cocks believes there is a link.
I take your point about David Henry Cocks marriage.

I am not aware of anyone getting fed up with you Ronald.

If the David Henry who married in 1845 is the David Henry who was 12 in 1841, then he was only 16 on marriage. Not impossible, though unusual.

Or maybe his age in 1841 was incorrect. You would need to get the marriage cert to be sure.

But your question is about finding them in later years.

Can I ask who your known ancestor is? And how you know who he or she is, i.e what evidennce you have?
