Thankyou everyone for your amazing efforts. What you have found would make sense in Alice being the illegitimate daugter of Martha Cheeseman and Charles Shrubb. Martha is indeed related to me.

The name Charles Shrubb Cheeseman came up as the fathers name in the Mormons' records search engine. I assumed that the Shrubb part of the name listed may well have been his mother's maiden name.
