Hi - who was his widow and children? The clearer picture we have helps us search.

Any middle name ?

Have you got the 1880 marriage cert to confirm the right person

Checked later census in case the couple just split up

Hi Natalie, it's quite possible she had the children with someone else (perhaps the man she later married) and they would have been registered as Hall as that was her name.

I think you really need to get a copy of that death certificate.

Natalie, Do you have the childrens birth certs?

or his widows 2nd marriage cert?

or are you going on what you found on the index and census?

I know that these children were Hall's, as when she remarried, she had children with a 'Matthews' & they have his names.

Yes, I think its about time to order some certificates - as yes, i am only going by indexs/census & information from others.

Thank you for everyones time & help ;-)

if selina was unmarried at the time she would have registered the children as Halls xx
or in my case they are on the census' but were not registered. have you got birth refs for the inbetween children? best thing is to get the charles hall death cert suggested. have to laugh as my lot were also Halls and it was a charles that died lol not the same family though :-((

would like to add my lot were strict irish catholics as well so how/why she had illegitimate kids goodness knows but his death cert gives the same address and her as informant so there is no denying it :-( only thing i can think of she was so poor without the husbands wage she turned to the easiest way to earn quick money :-((
hopefully the death cert will confirm things for you too xxxxx

Very true what you say Helen. The other thing was that if a woman had been married and widowed, there didn't seem to be such a stigma if she had more children after husband's death.
