Wonder if anyone can help with this please.
Searching for my Grandfather
On mothers (June, b 1937) birth cert he is William Woods a groom, of 59 Maplewell Road, Woodhouse eaves. in district Loughborough.
On her brothers (derek b 1941) birth cert it says name of father Albert William Woods occupation Police constable, of Oak Villas, Warwick Road, Knowle, Solihull.
On his death cert it looks like Alfred (but could be Albert) William Woods a fire warden of 309 Park Cottages, Barston, in district Meriden, date of death 6 September 1941. aged either 41 or 47.
So far I've been unable to find any marriage record, my grandmothers name was Dorothy Knowles she was born 18 April 1914.

I do know that he enrolled as either a wartime reservist or special constable on 8 July 1940 in the Solihull division and was stationed at Knowle. His PWR number was 196R and his name was down as Albert Woods and that he possibly resigned on 23 March 1941 a few months before he died.

What I'm actually trying to find out is where and when my grandfather was born.
Appreciate any help offered.

The death index states Albert William died aged 47 so that would make his birth around 1894, however information given at the time may have been incorrect regarding his first/second names.

Have you tried Warwickshire record office to see if there are any Police records available, I think the closure on those are 75years.......these may have his DOB & POB.

Yes, my Grandmother was Knowles, and he was stationed in Knowle, Solihull, and I got the information I do have from the police records, but due to a fire, that was the only information they had. There records didn't have a date of birth only when he died. I do have a copy of his death certificate, but that doesn't really give me any more information

Do you think there is any possibility that they did not marry?
Also, did your grandmother marry again?

Hi Patchem, yes my grandmother did marry again to a William Teager 16 July 1955. William Teager was aged 31 and his previous marriage was disolved.

Curious - the only marriage I can find for a William Teager, searching +/- 10 years from 1955 is to a Dorothy Haywood in Bridgenorth, Shropshire.

Sorry Jeseylily, yes Dorothy did marry a Haywood as well, seems she liked weddings ;-)

When did Dorothy marry Mr Haywood - as that 'marriage' does not seem to be showing, either?

The local paper (I live not far from Knowle and Barston) is called the Solihull News. It's been around since 1930 so you might have some luck with them.

See what you can get from them and if they can't help but would agree to someone going in person to look for you, I will do it.

If you can get an idea of where he might be buried (if you get some info from the paper), I'll go look at the graveyard for you.

The marriage certificate for Dorothy's marriage to William Teager has her name as Haywood aged 41 a widow. I have no idea when they married (Dorothy and Mr Haywood, she had a further two children with him in 1945 and 1953) .

As far as I know you can't but I thought if someone there is having a 'be kind to another day' they might look through back numbers for the relevant period - assuming that they keep them. What I was suggesting was that if they do keep back numbers but won't look for you, ask if someone can come and look in person.

Of course they might be kept at the library which would in a way be better. Perhaps you could e-mail the local studies and ask them.

I'm up to my eyes for the next couple of weeks but after that, so long as life stays a bit calm, my time is my own so it won't be a bother to spend a few hours in the library with the kids.

I've been looking into William Woods for the last 12 years and have come up with nothing as yet :-S so any help I'm really grateful for.
