Anne-Marie,

Welcome to the boards.

You actually do have more information than you think you have and every little clue will help us.

e.g. - look at when your husband and his siblings were born - we then have an approximate year where we could look for a marriage for his parents a few years either way.

You probably have a clue as to what sort of age his parents were at that time, whether they were both of a similar age or whether perhaps his father was much older than his mother.

You may have an idea as to when these people died and their approximate age?

Did you husband know of any of his parents siblings i.e. any aunties or uncles?

ALL these little things would help us to help you.

Also - if ALL of these events happened in Scotland it would be wise to edit the title of your thread to include the word 'Scotland' as this is a more specialised area of research.

There is a site called scotlandspeople which gives info on BMD's for this part of the Country.

Let us know everything you have please.

As far as I know the ScotlandsPeople website is the only place online where you will find births and marriages from Scotland, so you will have to try again.

This is one of the grandparents marriages. As you can see, you need to order the certificate to find out their parents' names and get further back.

how do you know they are the children of , Dea , the ones who are in the isolation hospital , why would you be in a place like that ??

Potty

Potty Report 11 Sep 2011 15:00

A couple of points to help you anne-marie

You cannot look at birth, marriage and death registers for England and Wales; you can only look at the index and the best place to do that is on the freebmd website:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

The only place anyone should buy certificates from is the GRO:

www.gro.gov.uk/

You can order them online and if you have the index ref, they cost no more than £9.25. The index ref is the Vol and page nos as Ozibird has given you for the of Lilian.

Scottish register entries can be looked at on-line on scotlandspeople (except for I think the last 100 yrs) and you can download them to your computer and print them. They give more info than English ones.

Re the children in the isolation hospital, they probably had one of the infectious diseases that were around them, eg Scarlet Fever.

Dea

Dea Report 11 Sep 2011 15:06

Sorry anne-marie - had to 'do lunch' !

The 3 children in the Isolation hospital were actually listed on the 1911 image along with Thomas, though all were crossed out and a note added to say that they were absent from home on the night of the census!

I cannot find Thomas on 1911 - you may want to look at the scottish 1911 on scotlandspeople to see if perhaps he was sent to stay with relatives up there ???

FRANK06 Report 11 Sep 2011 19:32

Anne-marie,

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

This is so easy to use in comparison with many of the English sites where you are seeking volume and page references with no way of finding out if they are the proper details you are looking for until you send fot the certificate.

Click on Marriages and enter APPLEBY & BELAM ......only one match.

No Year Surname (M) Forename (M) Surname (F) Forename (F) District City/ County/ MR GROS Data

1 1959 APPLEBY JOHN BELAM DIANE ELIZABETH HAYMARKET EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 1197

If you find more than one match then by altering the details like names, dates, cities, counties, you can soon reduce these.

The above certificate, should you require it, is not available to view online being less than 75 years old so you will have to order it at a cost of £12.00.

Births 100 years.
Marrriages 75 years.
Deaths 50 years.

Online viewing of certificates when available costs about £1.20.

Signing off, it's been a blast........ bye all. :-D
