Find Ancestors

Hi, Can anyone help with finding a marriage record please.

Joseph Norbury born c 1806 who married Penelope b 1811, they were living in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, but don't think that is where they married. Could possibly be Derbyshire/Chesterfield.
Census records show that they were married in the 1851 and 1861, 1841 doesn't say.
I'm trying to find out what Penelope's maiden name was so that I can request a marriage certificate.

If they married pre 1837 there won't be a marriage certificate.

Civil Registration began in England and Wales at the end of 1837

You could always get a birth cert

Civil registration only started in 1837. Before that its parish records only.
I see from the 1841 that both Joseph and Penelope where born in Worcestershire. I have done research at Worcester records Office and they have all the marriages in the county from 1700 transcribed in alphabetical order in 2 very large books. If you give the office a call they might look to see if there is any trace of a marriage.

Also I see Joseph was a nailmaker as wee members of my family. A lot of the nailmakers migrated to the Black Country in the 19th century.

Wendy, If you want more info on the ancestors of Joseph and Penelope ( which go back to the 1500's)and you hav'n't a subscription to Ancestry you get the same info from a website called MUNDIA and is free at the moment

Barry, I joined the site Mundia.com and viewed trees yesterday, even managing to view a photograph of my great grandfather Joseph Boyd Knowles b1877, however when I go into tonight, it just takes me back to my home page.
