Hi
I'm hoping someone will be able to help. I'm looking for the birth of Kenneth CORRY. He was my mother's brother , he died at the age of 17 in London ( I have his death certificate) When I received the certificate it states that his surname was CORRY not LUMBER which was my mother's maiden name.
Their mother was May Josephine CORRY . She was born in Co Galway in 1890 but had moved to London and married by 1921.
I did find a Kenneth CORRY born at around the right time in Londonderry and thinking he may have been born when May was on the way to London I ordered the certificate but it wasn't right.
Any ideas ??

You do not say what year he was born or died.

Is this his death ref?

If so please can you say what the F stands for?

Name: Kenneth F Corry
Birth Date: abt 1921
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1938
Age at Death: 17
Registration district: Kensington
Inferred County: London
Volume: 1a
Page: 238

So he was born before his mother married it seems?

Is this the birth cert you have that is not his you say.?

name: Kenneth Frederick Corry
registration district: Londonderry
event type: BIRTHS
registration quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1921
volume number: 2
page number: 159

Who does it give as parents?

Are you certain that you have the correct death cert? Was his mother the informant on it?

Linda

Linda Report 11 Aug 2011 22:20

Sorry, yes that is the death ref. Don't know what F stands for I'm afraid .
Really the only info I have is what I gleaned from the death certificate, so don't know his birthdate. My mother never told me he had the surname CORRY so I don't think she was aware he was illigitimate. As he was 17( ie b 1921 c) at the time of his death and his mother was married in London in June 1921 I assumed he was born in London but as I couldn't find his birth in England I tried Ireland but no luck

Yes , that was the *death* that I found. I didn't actually purchase the certificate but the letter I received from the NI GRO gives the result of the search they carried out and it isn't the right one as the mother's name is incorrect

* *sorry mean birth cert

I'm almost 100% sure the death cert is the correct one . My mother said he died when he was about 17. Their mother died when they were very young, My mother went into an orphanage and thought Kenneth was in a boy's school. The informant was someone who was living in the house where Kenneth died

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Aug 2011 22:25

Who was the informant on his death cert please?

His mother?

So it just has Kenneth F for his name on it then?

So if you have not purchased that death cert how can you be certain it is him please?

Births Dec 1920
Carry Kenneth F - Carry - Chelsea 1a 645

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Aug 2011 22:34

Ok...Crossed in the post there, and you edited,,but it looks like Mike may have found his birth for you...
It does say Carry on the original index but is in the right time frame and place for him and names often get mis spelled ,especially if a strong accent has a part in it when telling the reg.

Well done Mike..

Linda Report 11 Aug 2011 22:40

Mike
Could be a possibility, I must admit I haven't tried that alternative spelling. Chelsea could be a bit out as his mother was married in June 21 in Hampstead.

Sorry, no idea about the geography down there but it looks a good bet.
Only the certificate can tell you if it's the right mother.

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Aug 2011 22:50

Only one way to find out Linda, get your purse out..:)

It would at least discount him if not right mother......You can send for it via GRO with no refs and then you can state mothers Christian names so you get your money back if it is not May...If you put surname as Corry you may not get it back as they will say it was Carry on index so cant find it...

Chelsea and Hampstead are not THAT far apart and people do/did move..

Thanks Mike . I'll be doing that asap. I really would love to find it as my mother always talked about her brother 'Kenny' and thought so much about him that I was even going to be called Kenneth if I had been a boy!!
Thank you both for your help . it is much appreciated
kind regards

Hi
I have requested the birth certificate for Kenneth F CARRY and keeping my fingers crossed

I have found reference to Cornelius SUPPLE 's award and in fact found reference to the incident and subsequent court case on the Lancashire Library on line newspapers site.

I am now ( after a break since earlier in the year) finding information about the emigration of at least 2 of Cornelius's brothers, and possibly his mother to Massachusetts in 1850. Have yet to discover a site to look at ships lists to see if I can find anything
Thanks for your interest

Linda....Give me the names and I will see what I can find....

Linda Report 14 Aug 2011 20:32

Thanks Erin
Patrick SUPPLE c1819 emigrates in 1850 to Hopkinton, Massachusetts
marries Margaret ? in c 1856 and has 2 children ( only one survives) and working as a Bootmaker found censuses for several years
His brother David SUPPLE c 1835
marries Honora ? has 9 children, working as Bootmaker and dies in Holliston in 1905
I also think their mother Margaret may have gone with them as she appears to be living with David in ? lodgings in1855 and is living with Patrick and his family in 1865'
Not sure whether other members of family went, I initially thought another brother went as there was a William SUPPLE living in the lodgings with David and Margaret - all bootmakers , but I think his birthdate rules him out
kind regards

RE birth cert for Kenneth CORRY
What a disappointment !! GRO did the search, as was suggested, and it wasn't the right birth.
Don't know where to go from here so will sadly have to leave it for now.

PM RECEIVED ....

You found a possible birth for my maternal uncle I put an update on the original board but not sure whether you've seen it.
I sent off the details as you was suggested and it came back that they had carried out the search and not found a corresponding birth. I was really diasappointed and decided that was that. However, in desperation I thought I'd have another go using the full reference and it WAS the one with, as suggested the name being misheard as CARRY.
Thanks so much

Linda
