I have just received a birth certificate for Francis Walker (boy) born 1879 Silverton Devon mother ELIZABETH Walker nee PEDRICK and father William Walker. Informant Elizabeth Mills present at the birth.

I am baffled about Elizabeth as I thought that she would be Sarah! This is the only family I can find which is right with Frances on the 1881 census, so where is Elizabeth?

Thank you for the above census details. I am trying to find Francis walkers mother Elizabeth nee Pedrick. Does anyone think that Sarah and Elizabeth are the same people? I can't find a death (with an age) for Elizabeth Walker in Silverton from 1879-1881 either.

Perhaps the clue is the informant
certificates are only as good as the information given at the time, ?

If someone can find this family in the 1871 census it may record if the mother's name is Sarah.

This also may be an indication that Sarah has died between census and Elizabeth has taken her place ... not necessarily married to William.

It would seem it was error on the part of Elizabeth, the informant present at Francis birth.

Was Elizabeth Mills related to Sarah? I wonder if the Registrar confused the two women's first names.

I have a birth cert which I am almost sure is the correct one but the father's name is wrong. I feel that when the Registrar asked for father's name, the mother gave her father's name but as I cannot trace her parents I cannot confirm it.

1891 census ... might help clarify if 'Elizabeth' has been changed back to Sarah.

Thank you everyone for your help... xxx I have just been able to get on to the internet again (as I do not have the internet at home).

Please correct me if I am wrong but it seems that everything points to Elizabeth and Sarah Walker being the same person and that the informant got Sarah's forename wrong. If that is the case do you think that it is prudent to order the marriage certificate for William Walker and Sarah Petheric 1865 or should i look for an earlier sibling of my Francis eg Emily 1866, Rosa 1870 Bessie 1873 William 1876 or John 1882 all born silverton that i believe that i have the birth references for? Will that make any difference?
