Mary Dalton's marriage age on the bond would fit with 1841 & 1851 and if John should have been down as 31 not 21.....
did you mean to put an address in your post Meg?

Manchester Cathedral has extensive and detailed records of baptisms and marriages, with details far more than other churches. email them on
Their chief man is very good, and answers queries without any charge.
"Cathedral" was a district that covered not only the cathedral itself, but many satellite churches. But the records should all be at the cathedral itself.
Good Luck
Meg

Hello again, one and all.
I'll just unravel this a little bit from what we DEFINITELY know.
John Henry Law is the elder brother of Arthur Law. This is absolutely concrete family knowledge and also verified by census entries, marriages, etc., etc.
John Henry Law was an Attorney, Arthur was a 'Gentleman of Means'.
There was a BIG gap between John Henry and his younger brother's birth and I think it very probable that they shared the same father but different mothers.
One of Arthur's daughters was Mary Pauline DALTON Law, which is where the significance of the Dalton fits in.
I'm afraid that I'm still snowed under with relatives and just haven't got the spare brain capacity to sit down in a darkened room and sort out any more at the moment. It does look as if the Elizabeth whose death is on this thread is indeed John Henry Law's mama.
Will return when the dust settles!
Many, many thanks.

I'm getting confused too.
Robert is probably Arthur's brother
John Law (father of John Henry born 1 Dec 1811) married an Elizabeth (possibly Wentworth) and then a Mary (not sure where the Cumberlidge you have came from)
John Henry seems to have had another brother William David born Dec 18th 1813 but baptised with Jane (born May 12th 1817) at St Ann's on 8 Aug 1817 - both say father John 'attorney at law' but Will is son of John & Elizabeth & Jane daughter of John & Mary
Baptism: 8 Aug 1817 St Ann, Manchester, Lancashire, England William David Law - Son of John Law & Elizabeth Born: 14 Dec 1813 Abode: Cheetwood Occupation: Attorney At Law Baptised by: M. Randall Register: Baptisms 1813 - 1849, Page 63, Entry 498 Source: LDS Film 919408 Baptism: 8 Aug 1817 St Ann, Manchester, Lancashire, England Jane Law - Daughter of John Law & Mary Born: 12 May 1817 Abode: Cheetwood Occupation: Attorney At Law Baptised by: M. I'm so grateful to all of you for your continued help on this one.
Mary, I'm afraid I don't know what you are referring to. Are you using FamilySearch?? Who is the 'Robert' you have mentioned, please? And 'Dalton' is a VERY significant family name so I think this must be them.
Please let me know. I may not be back to this again tonight as we have guests, but will take a peek tomorrow.
Thank you all.

Could this be the one ??John law christened 2/6/1782 by David and Mary nee Cumberlidge who were married 21/8/1777.
In 1841 John Law was a attorney. Robert had the middle name of Dalton,on the same page as John law in 1841 there is a Ann Dalton. John Henry 1812 was a attorney and solicitor in 1851 he had 5 servant and in 1861 six servants.

From LanAnn's Urls, you'll see that in England, they started using preprinted BMD registers abt 1810-12. Like others have said, finding the mum's MS is rare (except in the North East). From Jane's and the preceding william's baptism, with dob=12/5/1817 & 14/10/1813 does pin down when he wed Mary somewhat.
Also via the URLs, you'll see there FS has a collection England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Parish Registers, 1603-1910 but, in spite of the title, it's really Greater Manchester. This hasn't been fully indexed yet, but can be accessed via:
https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=EUROPE
You can browse both the indexed and unindexed images.
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/indexp.html is also useful.

To: Flick and Ozibird -
Thank you so much for your help. I didn't realise that MMN wasn't on the baptism cert; for my Scottish lot, MMN is noted in the records and so I presumed that it would be for England.
Yes, this is looking like two marriages for John Henry Law which would explain the big gap between the brothers.
Now, how on earth am I going to find a marriage for a JOHN LAW to an ELIZABETH SOMETHING and then his second marriage to a MARY SOMETHING???? And how can I prove that they are the right marriages?
More help, PLEASE.
Thank you.

You won't get the MMN on a baptism record............unless the parents were unmarried, and admitted as much
Your only hope is to look for a marriage for the parents..........presumably some time before 1812.
