Can someone help with a marriage please?

Thomas was born c1819 in Wickwar, GLOS. he had a son Thomas born c 1844 in Bath, somerset.

On the 1851 census Thomas is living with his son Thomas and his mother Ruth In Bath and was a widower.

There is a marriage in 1840 ref 11 25 in Bath BUT I cannot find out who the wife was. This first wife had obviously died prior to 1851. NB Angell was noted as Angle just to confuse matters.

Thomas remarried in Bath to Susan Tucker in 1856 5c 1087.

There are deaths for Mary Jane Angell in Bath 1846
also Martha Angell in Bath 1847 and Ann Angell in Bath in 1850

Can anyone please locate the first wife's name because I am stuck!!

Did you notice that Thomas b. ca 1819 is shown on the 1851 Census as UNMARRIED?


Did he have a brother(s)?


If so could Thomas b. ca 1844 be the child of one of those brothers


ie, still the Grandson of Ruth, but NOT Thomas' child?

Well done Sylvia.

I think the problem started because of the way the enumerator wrote his "U" for unmarried. On the image it does look like a "W" for widower.

On the census where the 17 year old Thomas is down as nephew - proving your theory - you say it is the 1851 census but it is actually the 1861 census.
