Now, what i am struggling with,

1. Which birth entry is the correct one.
2. I have found the marriage on GR for her parents...Samuel Barraclough and Martha Ramsbottom Wood, in 1852, but I can not find it on Ancestry and I have access to the new West Yorkshire parish records!!! So unless i have missed it...
3,My theory as I need to do more work on it, is that Samuels mother was an unmarried Hannah Barraclough 1810 and her father was William Barraclough c1790. If anyone couls help with any of these queries it would be fantastic!!!

Kindest regards

Debi.

Samuel, Joseph and John are all weavers

Samuel Barrowclough's fathers name is John Stead on the cert

DebifromLeeds

DebifromLeeds Report 4 Aug 2011 01:44

mmm...that fits a bit better and my theory of Samuels mother (Hannah Barraclough) being unmarried would fit, as he gives his fathers name as JOHN STEAD!

The job fits better too, the other Samuel with mary was a mechanic.

Right, now for another puzzle that has driven me nuts over the last three nights!

Samuel Barraclough- 1830 married Martha Pickard Foster- 1826. SEE ABOVE.

Samuels father was John Stead- c1810 and mother Hannah Barraclough- 1810 (they werent married when Samuel was born, but later married)

Hannah Barrcloughs father was William Barraclough c1710.

Now I'm quite happy with that side, its Marthas side which is a puzzle!!!

Martha has her father down as a Joseph Foster on her banns.

On the 1841 census I have the following information:

Joseph Foster 50 Clothier
Mary Foster 50 School mistress
Joseph Foster 22 Clothier -BAPTISM 22/03/1818 making him 23
Mary Ann Foster 15 Flax worker - BAPTISM 02/04/1822 making her 13
Naomi Foster 15 Flax worker - BAPTISM 28/03/1824 making her 17
Martha Pickard 15 Flax Worker
Ruth Pickard 13 Flax Worker
George Mathewman 4

Joseph and Mary married 15th March 1812 and have another daughter Elizabeth Foster, baptism 14/05/1815.

There was a few marriages to chose from, but I chose the marriage of Mary Matthewman, as there is a George Mathewman living with them in 1841.

Now, why are they all Fosters, then two Pickards and one Mathewman???

I have gone down the grandchildren route, searched the siblings to see if they married someone with the surnames to no avail!!!

YET, Martha names herself as Martha Pickard Foster and her father as Joseph Foster on the parish banns. WHY???

I can not find any baptism records for her or Ruth Pickard!!!

In 1851 Mary foster is widowed and living with Samuel and Martha Barraclough and down as mother in law, age 62. she is not with them in 1861...died.

If anyone can shed some light please do.

BIG THANKS

Debi,

Forgot to add that I also looked at the possibility that Joseph married a Pickard, but there was none!

The children could all be theirs except the last one...grandchild?

They married in 1812
Elizabeth 1815
Joseph 1819
Mary Ann 1822
Naomi 1824
MARTHA 1826
Ruth 1829
George 1837

Hi Tempest, your second post looks more like my Ruth. This has driven me mad over last three nights, thinking of every possibility!

I'm off to bed now, too tired to do anymore. My husband doesn't 'get' why I get so worked up about needing to find out MORE!

Thanks Debi.

sorry not finding them any further back in time

I have the same problem with my great great grandmother who "appears" just before her marriage to my 2 x great grandfather.

her father's name and details were either fictitious or he was a naughty boy, as the only chap that seems to match already had a family :-0 and she doesn't ever appear with them, or a possible mother, nor have I ever found her birth cert

no amount of trawling t'internet or local archives have turned the definate answer as yet

have a go at another part of your tree for now and come back to them another time ;-) you could also try shouting at them and tell them to ruddy well help, I do frequently :-D

DebifromLeeds Report 16 Aug 2011 17:56

Ive already done the shouting thing, now Im dreaming about them at night!!! Soooooooooooooo annoying!!! Think I will have to move on, then come back to it, hate it beating me tho!

Thanks for your help.
