Find Ancestors

Hi listers,

I am trying to discover when T Valentine WELLER departed Liverpool bound for Canada. I know he arrived in Canada aboard the SS Caspian on 6th April 1871 so would probably have departed Liverpool about 28th May 1871. I just need some proof of the date. I can't ask anyone to look this up on Ancestry world wide but if you have already done so and have the answer it would be appreciated. ;-)

Valentine also returned to the UK in about 1876, any more info about the return would be appreciated.

Many thanks for you research here. I already have all the UK census for Valentine and his family up to UK departure and all the census to 1911 for Valentine and his family following their return to the UK.

I have his Canadian arrival date and details but as I don't have a world wide ancestry membership I can't get his UK liverpool 1871 DEPARTURE date.

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878 -1960 on Ancestry

An advert in The Times Shipping, Caspian owned by Allan Line, Montreal Ocean Steamship Company sails Wednesday 25th January 1871 from Liverpool.

I was hoping that page 1 of the manifest on Ancestry might hold a clue,but it's got me confused because at the bottom of the page it looks as though the passengers embarked on Apr.26,1871.

I still think that the arrival date of 6 April at Quebec has to be a mistake since they were on the 71 census in England which was taken 2 April.

Next sailing from Liverpool, Thursday 6th July 1871...

I can't find a record of the SS Caspian arriving Quebec 6 April 1871 but there is a record of her arriving 6 June 1871. A mistake somewhere?

Hi Martyn and Others, I am the one who set this 'hare running' your comments have sent me back to the print out from Ancestry, and the single sheet I have does NOT have a date on it. But the accompanying sheet by Ancestry give a date of arrival as 6 April 1871.

Looking at the Caspian's own records I favour May 6

That's really the only way it would make sense. As Marg pointed out-they were in England for the census.
