Hello
I am trying to find a marriage record of this couple, Cornelius Reynolds born c1790 - in England and Elizabeth collins. Unfortunately that is all the information I have, I obtained this information from their son's (George Reynolds b1811) death certificate.

thanks

Hi David,

have you considered that he may have been in Aus when he died??

Australia Death Index, 1787-1985

David Report 15 May 2011 01:03

Hi BatMansDaughter

No I had not considered that Cornelius died in Australia- his son George did. However I would suspect that if he did it would be somewhere in NSW! Guess that gives me another avenue to pursue though.
thanks for your assistance

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2011 01:32

You've seen the other death in NSW with the same details, too?

13095/1904
REYNOLDS GEORGE
father CORNELIUS
mother ELIZABETH
GOULBURN

8171/1908
REYNOLDS THERESA J
father CORNELIUS
mother ELIZABETH
SYDNEY

Both would seem to have been extremely long-lived.

David Report 15 May 2011 02:33

Hi Janey
I have seen the George entry and have that death certificate (he is my 3xgreat grandfather ).Not sure who Theresa is possibly his sister.

The trouble is I dont have enough information to make connections. All that is stated on the death certificate is that George was from unknown locality in England and that his father, Cornelius Reynolds was a shop keeper and his mother was Elizabeth Collins. On George's son Williams birth certificate, George as the informant states he (George) was born in London.
thanks for your reply

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2011 02:58

George really was 95ish years old when he died?

Can you maybe give *all* the information you have? Doing otherwise just handicaps the rest of us.

Son William: born when and where? Mother's name what? Do you have the marriage record for marriage of father George Reynolds?

Does George's death certificate name his wife and children? This is usual for Australian death certificates.

Doling it out in dribs and drabs -- like the bit in your last post about George saying he was born in London -- isn't the best approach.

I don't know what was initially in your opening post that you say confused the issue, but if it's relevant, hand it over!

Sorry I suppose I was being mindful not to have more than one request in a posting! get a bit concerned about the behaviour and responses of others on this forum!!!

From Georges death certificate
Date of death- 5 December 1904, at Goulbourn & District Hospital Goulbourn, age 93years,
cause of death - senile decay,
name and occupation of father: Cornelius Reynolds, store keeper, mother Elizabeth Collins.
Informant was matron of hospital

buried 6 Dec 1904, goulbourn cemetry.
Where born and how long in colonies- locality unknown, england, 73 years in NSW. Lists his wife as Bridget consertor (actually is considine) 43 years. Lists children as Henry 49, Emily 47, Mary A 45, Susan 43 and Willim 40 - all living. My research has shown that George and Bridget never married -
Bridget was in fact married to a John Humphries and had 4children with him prior to George. I have confirmed this with descendants of the Humphries - who at first disagreed but after own research and evidence - such as baptism and birth certificates of the children they agree. Surprisingly Bridget is listed as John's wife on his death certificate.

The children all born in Goulburn/Millbank area and as indicated their mother was Bridget Consertor/Considine and she also used the name Reynolds.

On Williams birth certificate (b1856) the youngest where George is the informant, it does not give a marriage of the parents, but it does say under previous children of relationship that there are 5 males and 4 females living (but this would seem to include the children from the Humphries marriage! I have never found this many for Bridget and George alone).

Well I think that is all I have - hopefully it clarifies things
cheers

It is also on Williams birth certificate that his mother's family name is listed at Humphries, with maiden name as Consideine.

"Sorry I suppose I was being mindful not to have more than one request in a posting!"

... It's one post per request, not one request per post ...

I guess for some reason I figured you must have seen that George James record, David, since I saw it everywhere I searched.

It doesn't make him 93 in 1904, but that's not a surprising discrepancy. ;)

William's birth reg:

4713/1856
REYNOLDS WILLIAM
GEORGE
BRIDGET
GOULBURN

But, um, really? -- Parents George and Bridget:

V1848648 42A/1848 REYNOLDS HENRY
V1855649 42A/1855 REYNOLDS EMILY
V18643440 40/1864 REYNOLDS SUSAN
V1882650 42A/1882 REYNOLDS MARY A

1848 to 1882, and she already had children before that?? Hm, if Mary A was 45 at George's death, that must be 1862, a mistranscription, or be a late registration!

So you know he was in Australia by 1848, but nothing at all before that, is the idea?

David

David Report 15 May 2011 07:01

Hello
It is a bit confusing, yes I think there is a mistranscription! The baptism cert for Mary A has DOB 15 March 1852 (she was baptised 24.08.1855 along with Henry, Emily) Henry dob is 12 March 1848, emily 10.04.1850 and Susan 11 January 1854.

Bridget had her first child in 1837, then 1839, 1841 & 1846 -these were with Humpheries.

Yes as far as I have researched George was in Australia 1848

David

David Report 15 May 2011 07:11

I have been looking at my notes and I have made mention that it is believed George Reynolds (and hence Cornelius) are descended from Charles Reynolds a first fleet drummer- but the validity of this I do not know

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2011 08:16

But ... that would make George, not to mention Cornelius, *not* born in England ...

David

David Report 15 May 2011 08:18

yes that's why I have not really pursued that line of thought - particularly in light of what is on the certificates
