Yes Flick I did take note of the births you mentioned I am looking at them now,and the other marriage in that same area turns out to be that of Sylvia's sister Grace. Thank you for your help it is much appreciated.

Flick Report 7 May 2011 17:09

There is another Thomas/Didcote marriage in the same district, which would probably account for some of the 9 births in the area.

There are two births in the same qtr/year which are not twins, so each must be to different parents

Didn't you take notice of the info I gave you about births?

Rose

Rose Report 7 May 2011 16:54

Thank you for your help flick it was around the 9/3/2011 that i sent one message and the other went on the 16th they were to two different people so I know that it is not one person who hasn't opened mail. But you are right they may not use GR any more and just not closed their account but never mind I'm not giving up :-) . I don't think she was remarried which has been suggested as her surname at the time of her death was Thomas I will have to order the death certificate to see if that will give me any more clues to weather or not my husband was her only child. Thank you once again

There is a complete page of births on Ancestry for Thomas/Didcote, all but one of them (Bernard) registered in Haverfordwest.

To find out if any of them was/were Sylvia's child(ren), you would have to purchase the cert(s).

And that's only assuming that any child she may have had was registered with the surname Thomas

Flick Report 4 May 2011 08:53

Name: Sylvia Jean Thomas
Birth Date: 13 Jan 1930
Death Registration Month/Year: Aug 2001
Age at death (estimated): 71
Registration district: Pontypridd
Inferred County: Glamorgan
Register number: 92A
District and Subdistrict: 8621
Entry number: 34

The person who registered her death would be the best one to try to contact

What surname was she using when she died?

As for people not opening PM's, you must take into account that not everyone who has a tree on GR is actually a current user, although his/her tree will still be on here if he/she doesn't delete it

GR do try to notify people that a PM has been logged, but if the person's current e-mail has not been registered with the site, they will be unable to make contact.

However, there are any number of reasons why people don't read PM's............how long is it since you sent them? Not more than a few days, I would imagine...............

J stands for Jean and have now found out that she died in 2001 but would still like to find out if she had any other children. I have tried contacting the other people which seem to have her in their trees but unfortunatly it seems they do not open their mail I really don't see the point of joining the site if you are not going to bother to do that.Thank you for your help anyway
COPBNMN your user name was a bit confusing but I got it in the end Thanks again Rose

Does the J stand for Joan? There's a death for a Sylvia Joan with that birthdate.

Looks like Sylvia had several brothers and sisters. Have you looked on FreeBMD? Perhaps you can track them down.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 29 Apr 2011 22:14

Hi Rose,,not cut and dry as that, but in essence the real dad must have been present or signed to have the baby registered in his surname,,,but because legally the mums surname was Thomas and they wasnt married its entered in the index in both surnames......then legally the child can use either surname but only 1 birth certificate will be issued,,,,,,I suspect that in the name of Walsh......
good luck....divorce didnt come so quick & easy in 1950s unless you had money and good grounds so a 3 year seperation before applying for a divorce, then it could take up to 5 years to complete ,or granted after 7 years for desertion.

Hi Kay
So if I understand your posting then by rights my Husbands name should be Thomas and not Walsh.

Rose

Rose Report 29 Apr 2011 21:16

I am sorry Flick but I thought this was a different search to the other one but thank you for pointing out my mistake I will remember in the future.

Well that's the whole point I don't know whether David or Sylvia are still living and Bernard is my Husband Thomas my father in law and they know what I am doing so as long as I have their backing I don't see the problem as for you writing the reply you have if you know that any of the other 2 are still alive then you know more than me, and that is my question what happened to her and if she had more children as our family is getting bigger with grandchildren etc and they are all moving to different parts of the country, and like most families mine is not cut and dry , and I don't want to be the one who has to tell one of my family sorry but that's really your uncle/cousin so I am doing my best to find out as much as I can before anything like that happens. I am truly sorry if this had offended you in anyway but I am doing this for my Grandchildren's sake not mine.Surly you can understand that.
