That strikes me as just silly. ;) People know the names of people they bought a house from 6 years ago! And agencies know who the vendor was in a real estate transaction. Maybe the current occupant is a tenant?

What might help is a simple title search, which I'm sure would tell you when the Halls sold the house. I'm in Canada so I don't know how that's done in England.

Huh, I just tried a "detailed enquiry" for the address here

http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/wps/portal/Property_Search

and found it. You can order a copy of the title register for £4.00.

I would really do that. It would give you JJH's parents' names and the date they were last there -- hopefully. (The site won't show me the "example" title register, but I looked at one at a commercial site.)

yes i called the people who live there now they didnt know anything called the agency who made the sale in 2205 but they couldnt help me either i will keep trying

JaneyCanuck Report 21 Apr 2011 16:20

I gave you contact info for the current occupant of JJH's parents' previous residence -- have you contacted that person and not been able to find any information about them? The house was sold in 2005 as I recall, and perhaps the current occupant could direct you to the owner they bought from; the current or previous owner may have bought from the Halls or their estate and might know what their situation was at the time -- for instance whether one or both had died, whether they were entering a care facility, etc.

I bought a house in 1992 and I could locate the previous owner pretty easily, so I don't know why that wouldn't be worth a try.

Finding somebody can take a good bit of effort, and that's a stone I wouldn't leave unturned, myself.

I'm afraid that the two leads I was tracking seem likely to have turned into dead ends after all, as a JJH was born in the same place and seems to account for both those trails, unfortunately.

Leanne can let me know by PM if you get any more info and need help.

thank you hopefully that will help

You have me in your inbox now, so if you do get more info that's a bit too personal to post here, like the marriage details, just reply to my message and I'll do some more looking.

There is a Jonathon J Hall on the electoral roll in Norfolk, but only up to 2004.

Actually, I might suspect that was him. He was living with a woman and her children by a previous marriage. This could be a promising lead. I have found current contact info for what seems to be one of her children and I will send it to you.

Leanne sent me a bit of info by PM -- the parents used to live in Banstead (not Branstead -- for foreigners like me, spelling counts! it took me ages to figure that out), Surrey.

They would not likely have been young newlyweds when they adopted JJH in the early 1950s. (An adoption from Africa was certainly rare at the time.)

So I would think they were born before 1930 and are likely deceased.

I suspect this is their marriage:

[edit - deleting because Leanne has now communicated that the father is thought to be Charles ............. have provided some links to info re the address in Banstead]

Surrey Mid.E.

That district covers Banstead. (I'm not thrilled about posting that record here, but the parties would probably have been born 1925 or earlier and probably be deceased now.)

I don't see any likely births to that marriage. It could be worth getting that marriage certificate, which would give their ages and full names -- after 1969, that information can be used to identify deaths.

I don't see matching deaths in that district, but without a middle name it's very difficult to search for such common names. Deaths can only be searched up to 2005.

If you got that marriage certificate we might be able to figure out whether those are his parents and that could lead to more info. Another thing it might find is the names of brothers/sisters of George and Margaret, who could be younger and still living.

You order certificates here:

Leanne, by a bit of sleuthing and searching trees here at GR, I've found your sister's birth and I see your mum wasn't married to JJ Hall.

It would be a good idea to put his name in your family tree here as it seems you haven't done that. That way, if he or someone in his family searches for his name here, they'll find you. Make sure your email address in your accounts here are kept up to date so you receive any messages sent to you. (A permanent account like at Gmail is good for that.)

Do you think it's possible that JJ Hall may have had a child in 1980 maybe in Yorkshire? A child with exactly the same name died there in 1991, sadly, and I can't find a birth to match that name (so the child may have been registered under his mother's surname).

Leanne, if he's your sister's dad ... were her parents married?

If so, the marriage certificate could provide some useful information, like JJ Hall's father's full name. Finding records of JJ Hall's parents could help find him.

Because we're talking about living people here we have to be sensitive, since information and discussion here can be found by anyone on the internet.

Is his name actually spelled Johnathan, or is it Jonathan or Jonathon?

Where was your sister born?

Anyone who answers here will not be related -- we're just other members of this website trying to help. There's not much chance that anyone related will see your message, unfortunately.
