Sorry to be a continued nuisance however, I am now slightly bewildered/confused from all the info that you have all gratefully given.

However, an update. I can now confirm the following as true

Robert Shadrack Holmes b.1901 Gt Waldingfield - My Grandfather
Alice Holmes definitely was slightly older then the above and was his sister (confirmed by my sister), so the above info looks correct.

Their father was:
Nathan Holmes b.c1871 Married to Julia (nee Green) sourced on here

Also from what I can tell from all the above (& some checking on here by myself) Nathan's father was

Robert Holmes and perhaps his father was Thomas Holmes?

I have these on my family tree from checking census etc on here, but I think I may have gone astray somewhere?

Any final words of wisdom would be finally appreciated & I/we can put this beastie to bed.

I think that Nathan Elmer is Nathan Holmes's cousin. He is the son of William and Mary who appear on the 1851 census living with Nathan Holmes grandparents, Thomas and Mary Ann Holmes.

Sorry rootgatherer, just deleted as I saw the other Nathan too........... strange though that he added Holmes as his middle name. Found them in 1901, still with Amelia.

Blimey, don't know how you manage to find these things, sometimes (as now) I am sitting here spending the last two hours looking for just one thing.

Re the above, Speculative maybe, but for now I shall grab this with both hands (I'm like that).

If you could answer another short question for me I would be grateful concerning Nathan Holmes (as you've shown above) appears to be around on 1871 then disappears until 1901 why would this be?

Many, many thanks for the above help, it's really appreciated to a fairley newbie to all this. I never thought about mis-spellings etc re: Olive/Alice I just assumed as Olive wasn't on 1911 cenus & that states a child has died, she was the one. seems I have a lot to learn?

The 1901 census image is very clear, but it's entirely possible that the enumerator mis-read his notes when copying the info to the actual sheet
