I am trying to locate my family on my mothers side Her full maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Wood she was born on Sept. 13, 1929 Her parents where Edward Casewell Wood and Olive Gladys Wood maiden name Latham. I think her parents where married in June 1927 I believe that Mary E Wood was born in Newport , but spoke often of Burmingham.I believe that the family owned a gas station during wwII.
There are two other siblings I think there names where Margarett and William. She lived in Catania Sicily with Alfred Roy Chamberlain in 1960 and also became my mother on Dec 25th 1960. If anyone has any leads for me I thank you in advance.

Actually, your couple married in Wolverhampton, and there were quite a number of Wood/Latham marriages, so the two couples are likely unrelated.

If you search for the parents' births at FreeBMD -- this is what the rest of us would do -- you'll have their birth years.

Post them here and someone with full access to the 1911 census will probably be able to identify them as children with their families in that census.

You can also use the free search facility to search for them, but it's then more complex to search for others of the same surname "living with" them.

FreeBMD isn't fully transcribed up to the mid-20th century yet, so I checked at Ancestry (pay site). There is a Margaret Wood mother Latham born in 1940, but in Wellington ("Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Herefordshire" per Ancestry) which seems off? There's no William Wood mother Latham.

Olive Gladys Latham born 1906 married Edward Casewell Wood born 1901 married in 1927 in Wolverhampton. They had 2 children Mary Elizabeth Wood Sep 1929 and John E Wood born in Dec 1930, 6A 961 both where born in Newport Shropshire I was incorrect when i stated her siblings where Margaret and William. Does anyone know if Sherrie Mary Wood born in 1898 in Wellington Sh. had a son named Leonard E. Elcock in 1922. before her marriege to George Elcock in 1924 the records indicate that a child was born to a Wood (maiden name) last name Elcock. I guess my question is where there any other children born to them and if so when when where?

The way to locate Elcock-Wood births is to search at FreeBMD for births with surname Elcock and mother Wood. Because of the dates, the details should not be posted here as the individuals could still be living.

There are two, one of which you have noted. To check whether that birth might have been to a different couple, search for marriages between the two surnames (as I described earlier re Latham and Wood).

In fact there was a 1921 marriage in Pontefract, the location of the 1922 birth, so that birth is not likely to your couple, who married in Wellington Shropshire..

The other birth was in Yorkshire also, so it is likely a birth to the other couple as well.

If there is no birth with the surnames of the marriage, it seems there is no birth to be found. Nobody actually knows these things, we can all just do the searches to try to find the answers.

I tried guessing that John E Wood's middle name would be Edward, for his father. There is no death up to 2005 for a John Edward Wood born in 1930. Without a middle name and/or exact birthdate there would be no way of identifying his death, if he died in England/Wales before that date; the name is just too common.

You should get his birth certificate; that wll give you his full name and birthdate, and that can be used to search death records. If you get it, don't post those details here, just let us know you have the info and you can give it to someone privately so the search can be done.

There's one common explanation for a surname as a middle name -- it's the surname of the mother, where the parents are married.
