Anne, have you ever asked for a passenger list lookup in case they emigrated?
Also, is there another address on the other child's birth cert?

PM:

Hello Janet,
I finally received the birth cert for Victor only a couple of days ago but I have been away so couldn't get in touch with you until today. I also received the marriage cert for Victor which I decided to apply for as well.

Unfortunately, it is not conclusive as the parents of Victor are listed as Henry Partington and Helen Mary Fisher on his birth cert and on the marriage cert of Victor in 1950 the father is listed as George Henry Partington. The parents listed on my mother's birth cert are Edward Partington and Helen Fisher. The birth cert for my mother's elder brother, Edward, show the parents as Edward Partington and Vera Helen Fisher.

I cannot find a marriage cert for the parents of Victor so it doesn't help me to verify or eliminate them as being the same parents of my mother. It seems a bit of a coincidence though that I can't locate a marriage cert for Victor's parents, just as I can' t for my mother's parents

I'm not sure what to do next as am reluctant to contact Victor's children when I don't have any concrete information.
I have also contacted Vanessa Edwards to keep her updated as she helped me with the link on the message board.Regards,

Hi Anne.
One thing I don't think we checked is the occupation of your grandfather and Victor's father - do they match?
I am also wondering why they left in such a dramatic way. I can only think of 2 possibilities - either one or both committed a crime, or Helen/Vera ran off with a brother! Sheer speculation of course. Maybe we need to look for their deaths in case they offer some clues. It could be a co-incidence but I think we need to stick with Victor for now.

Hello Jan,
Yes, I tend to agree that we should try concentrating on Victor's parents, George Henry Partington and Helen Mary Fisher in London.
The occupation of Edward Partington on the birth certs of my mother and her brother were listed as: Works Mngr, General Engineering in 1919 and Tube Works Mngr in 1918. The occupation for George Henry Partington in 1923 is shown as General Engineer, Newspaper works and then on marriage cert of their son, Victor, in 1950, as Engineer. So, there is a similarity in profession for Edward and George Henry.

I am suspecting this is the same person. Just has to be connected don't you think? I would be inclined to bite the bullet and contact Victor's daughters if you can. Not necessary to tell the whole story at this point.

I know it's a bit off-centre, but found this 1911. I wonder if a family member? Note birthplace of daughter. In 1901 Edward is a mechanical engineer living in Birmingham, in the right general area
I shall be dreaming about the Partington's soon!!

Yes, perhaps I should write them a letter (as they are ex-directory) and just hope that they are receptive enough to want to look into the family and pass on their info to me. It can't hurt to try I suppose.

Thanks for the info about this Edward because it looks worth following up more so I will look into it.
I think I am becoming obsessed with wanting to find out what happened to my grandparents, but hope you will have nicer dreams!
