If we start the search from this point, the question will become clear.
Joseph Gardner was b.1866 in Napton. He went on to marry Bessie Large from Southam, she was b.11/10/1874. They married 27/07/1893.

Joseph's Father was Charles Gardner b.1844 in Southam, says he married 14/10/1861, and the question is to WHO??

Any information leading to who the wife maybe, would be greatly recieved.

First question was "Where did you get the marriage date from?"
I'm curious how you have an exact date of marriage but no bride's name?

The bride could possibly be"Minty" b.1864 from Stockton. I did all this searching about a year ago or so and vividly remember something about a Joseph as a nephew being mentionned but as living with another Joseph, which made it even harder to decipher. So if Joseph was born 1864, was that Napton, if so that makes sense. Charles Gardner was the father of Joseph who was born 1864. And Joseph was a cement burner at the Quarries at Nelson Lime Works in Stockton.
Many thanks to all of you that have submitted information, been al long time since I have looked at this, so please bare with me.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Joseph & Bessie, naming his father as Charles?

Amanda

Amanda Report 7 Feb 2011 13:30

No I dont, but my late great grandmother told me it was Bessie Large.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 7 Feb 2011 13:34

I know it's Bessie Large but does the marriage certificate say that Joseph's father was Charles? If not where did you get the name Charles and his marriage date? Because on that date Joseph Gardner married Elizabeth Smith in Stockton.

Amanda

Amanda Report 7 Feb 2011 13:49

Sorry not reading properly,I dont have the cert. Minty, was just a wild card, If its the same Joseph and all the facts fit like his job, place of birth, residence then perhaps your right and it was Elizabeth. Are you able to obtain anything on her parents?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 7 Feb 2011 14:50

Here's Joseph & Bessie in 1901. Joseph states he's born 1866, Stockton.
1901 census
Elm Row, Stockton, Warwickshire
Joseph Gardner, head, 35, cement labourer, born Stockton
Bessie, wife, 27, born Southam
Olive, dau, 4, born Stockton

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 7 Feb 2011 15:05

It certainly looks as if this is the same Joseph in 1891, the nephew of Joseph & Elizabeth. He's a labourer at the lime works. Note that there's a niece with them by the name of Smith which seems to be Elizabeth's niece so she'd be the Elizabeth Smith who married Joseph Gardner. I had thought they must be Joseph Jr.'s parents but evidently not.
1891 census
6 Post Office Lane, Stockton, Warwickshire
Joseph Gardner, head, 57, born Alder Marston
Elizabeth, wife, 49, laundress, born Stockton
Joseph, nephew, 26, labourer at lime works, born Napton
Mary A. Smith, niece, 15, born North End
