The OND 1941 birth referred to by an earlier poster could not have been a child of the man who is the subject of this thread and who died between 9th and 11th June 1940

ADDED

The birth was re-registered in 1943….following the mother’s re-marriage in AMJ 1942

hello Joe,

Researching now Edward Royle PSM and was wondering do you have that photo of him that you mention?

I know a few years have elapsed since your posting! I have not been able to locate a war Diary; many in the circumstances of a fighting rearguard were not priority!

Hope you can help

They possibly lived Colchester - that is where the child's birth was registered, also a birth after his wife's re-marriage. If they were living Folkestone the birth should have been registered in Folkestone.

This is the only birth registered Salford 1900-1902, if it is him a copy of the birth certificate should give you both parents details.

Births Dec 1901 (>99%)
Royle Edward Salford 8d 113

Think the address should be 33 Rodney Street, Salford - there wasn't a Rodner Street on 1901 census. Maybe someone with a FMP subscription could do an address search on the 1901 census please?

I can't imagine anyone on here would know. Perhaps the official record (War Diary) may well not give any information on his death but perhaps the Sergeant may be mentioned. Could the Sergeant have been Court Martialled? Again, there may well be records , but as you seem to have ignored what I posted before, perhaps you will do so again.

Ref Edwards Mother,no information, also why was Edward in a Ind.school? I do not know.
Edwards DOB & information comes from his army record.
WO111.Edward Royle
I have a photo of him taken prior to going to France,1940.

Who killed WO111 PSM Royle? from Capt BC Bradford ADJ 1BW his son Andrew Bradford wrote "Escape from Saint Valery EN-Caux" Page 33 During all this time, enemy could be seen occasionally in front, but there was practically no firing.Enemy aircraft flew over several times very low.
PSM Royle was killed by Sgt ___???? who went quite mad.(Our best trench was used for burying PSM Royle in and later we regretted it very much)
So why was PSM killed? and who was Sgt?????
that is the question?? will we ever know??Capt Bradford must have known who Sgt ??? was,I wonder what happened to the Sgt?
I am posting on GR in the hope some one may have the information on what happened in France.
Who knows????

The War Diary, if it has survived, should explain where he was and what he was involved in on the day of his death. WW2 War Diaries OCCASIONALLY have photos too - might be worth a look although it's still very unlikely there would be a photo of him there. The newspaper local to where he lived may have a report on his death and a photo.

mac Report 1 Jan 2011 20:20

I thought that was Edward's wife's name - do you have his mother's name or brothers? - Think the brother could have been Charles - the only other "C" born Salford was Clifford who died age 5.

Did both his parents die - just that it looks like he ended up in a home in his early years.

You have his dob and place for father, is this from a birth certificate? If so it should give you mothers details.
