Can anyone help me to find my aunt's birth certificate? She was born in Hounslow Army Barracks around 1915, I have looked at Army births etc, but to no avail. Any suggestions???? many thanks, in advance!

If born in Hounslow barracks then surely she should be on the ordinary birth indexes

Have you checked on FreeBMD ?

Hi thanks for your replies! I am not very good at this, and so left out the vital part, my aunt's name.... Her name was Elizabeth

Her surname at birth was McEvoy, and my Grandmother's name was Rachel McEvoy, formerly Brady.

not finding it at present, does the name Paul J McEvoy born 1921 mean anything to you?

when did your grandparents marry?

Anne

Anne Report 4 Jan 2011 01:15

Feb 14 1912, in Co. Cavan, Ireland

I don't think so, as I have been to Cavan Geneology centre and they could only find my elder aunt, born in 1913. I am finding this very strange. My dad has no idea, he said that people never talked about birthdays etc, as they were too busy trying to make ends meet (the whole of society then).

Thanks to both tempest and Mike, will try both, I may have opened a great big can of worms!!!!

do you know if she married?

Anne

Anne Report 4 Jan 2011 01:41

Yes I do, she never did, and died on 14th Jan 1961 in Warrenpoint, Newry Co Down.

tempest Report 4 Jan 2011 01:47

just an idea could Elizabeth be her middle name rather than her first name, did she have other names?

Anne

Anne Report 4 Jan 2011 01:50

Not that any of us knows, it appears that my dad had two names, but he can't remember if either of his sisters had a second name, she was always known as 'Nissie'

tempest

tempest Report 4 Jan 2011 01:56

have you got her death cert?

Nissie sound possibly short for Vanessa or Agnes

have you looked for your grandfather's army records, there are several John McEvoys on ancestry military records, do you know where and when he was born or his military number

Anne

Anne Report 4 Jan 2011 02:02

He was born on 21st Sept 1878, in Corcreechy, near Newry Co Down. I don't have his Army no. to hand, it's up in the loft in a photograph album!!!!
