Are there any descendants of Thomas Smith, b.1876 in Stratford out there? His father was John, mother Eliza and brother Jack (John). Believe he had a wife, Florrie. The story goes that he was a barge horse worker on the Grand Union Canal in London, got drunk, fell in and was drowned. Nobody knows when, and as there are millions of Thomas Smith deaths I really need some help in tracking this one down. Thanks.

Look in search trees to find out whether anyone on GR is researching the name.

Have you looked for a marriage?

If he didn't marry, the chances of identifying offspring (if any) are slim, as they would almost certainly be registered under the mother's surname.

Which census is the last one on which you have located him?

I've tried marriages, but again there are thousands - It would cost a fortune to work through all the certificates. Only census I can find him in is 1881 when he is 5 years old. (He was my grandfather's brother). I'll give searching the trees a go - I would love to sort this one out! I was given this information by a very elderly aunt just before she died.

When you looked for a marriage, did you put in Flor* for spouse's name?
