Oooo ,thanks for letting me know I was right ,such a feeling of self satisfaction has come over me I might even blush..;)

I do like updates to know how things are going..

Dirty old goat and a cradle snatcher he was then, but if they were happy together it makes no difference.
Many men carry on making children until their 80s,thank Evans I cant being a woman, done my bit for mankind with 3 sons thanks !

Good luck with the rest of your tree.

Fan..

Thanks, Chris Flick and FannyByGasLight it appears you have unlocked the mystery as to where everyone went. I will start putting it in place and getting some certificates to see How Alice Miles (Baber) is shown on John Baber death cerificate and when I know I will post an update incase you are interested. Thanks you so much

This looks to be John William Babers birth as per 1911 census, but reg as Miles..

Births Dec 1901
MILES John William B Bristol 6a 7

What is the betting on the B standing for Baber in his name?

Flick

Flick Report 12 Nov 2010 14:04

Looks like he had an 'interesting' life...lol!

These children seem to be gone on 1911 ,so is John?
Hang on,on image they are all Gibbs, not Baber except for John, but down as his children.

What a mess on that image.
The children are with the parents Francis and Pamela and other children on previous page and for some reason John Baber is squeezed in right at the top of the children listed.
He is nothing to do with them..

Soooooooooo,they didnt marry then.
Just lived in sin !
Now why did I not think to look there on Probate?

Nice one Chris.

So he seems to have lied mightily on 1911 census as he was a cradle snatcher?

Deaths Mar 1923
BABER John 86 Bristol 6a 108

Born c1837 then?

Michael
Many people did not not marry for one reason or another.
What we are saying is that we can not find a marriage entry for your people at all, therefore we take it they did not marry legally.
Alice would have just taken the Baber name,as people do now and did then.
My own greatgrandparents did not marry as they they were married to other people and left them to live together.
Divorce back then was very expensive and difficult to do,so was out of reach for the working classes.
Maybe John Baber was married to someone else, left her and lived with Alice,he would not have been able to marry Alice as it would have been Bigamy.
But I am unable to find John Baber on any census before 1911,likewise Alice.
I would send for that birth cert for Alice from 1882 that I posted, but none of the marriages as they do not have a grooms name of John Baber on the same page.

Hi Flick and FannyByGaslight, thanks for all the info and effort I you have put in I have thought all though I have no Ideal could John william baber may have been married before? but if thats the case his first wife must have died? why is no recorded marriage and why is she listed as alice baber on the census and why is alice listed as alice baber on percy wedding certificate. Perhaps I should just take a gamble and request the marriage certificate you have listed

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Nov 2010 13:00

Glad to know its not just me then Flick...As in needing specs and not being able to find anything at all on them except 1911.

This may be Alices birth as it is the reg district for Winford, but I still cant see her for sure on 1891 census.

Thanks, FBG

I'd actually just spotted the birth year in the title......should have gone to Specsavers!

So I deleted the death, which clearly wasn't correct

I can't see them either, apart from 1911.

And no marriage anywhere for the name as given.............

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Nov 2010 12:29

It says this on 1911 Flick.

BABER, John Head Married M 42 1869 Greengrocer Dundry Somerset
BABER, Alice Wife Married 11 years
F 29 1882 Winford Somerset
Registration District:
Bristol Sub District:
Bedminster

Children all born after 1901 on it.

Still cant find either of them on earlier census though.
Nor a marriage, but with the big age gap of Alice and John maybe he was married to someone else and couldnt marry Alice?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Nov 2010 12:17

Nothing,I can find nothing for the marriage ,nor his death.
Nor can I find him before 1911,do you have him or Alice on earlier census Michael?

Flick

Both of those records should be on freebmd

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Put the site in your favourites, and refer to it for any BMD's between 1837 and approx 1940

michael Report 11 Nov 2010 11:08
