If you want school photos, and can work out what school he went to, then you can try and see what has been posted on friends reunited for that school.
You can try local history societies to see what they have published (I found a photo of a great-uncle playing football, team named, in a small booklet I bought).
One thousand pounds was a lot of money - wealthy family?

The 1911 census has been referred to on here as having been posted by Tania but for some strange reason I cannot see it (forgive me if it is my eyes playing tricks) Anyway it looks as though it will be of use as it proves that the marriage and Army records that you have are the correct ones.

BISHOP, Frederick George Head Married M 39 1872 Dock Labourer Somerset Brislington
BISHOP, Sarah Harriet Latania Wife Married F 42 1869 Household Work Bristol Temple Parish

Going from the birth of Frederick George William Bishop 1898 that Irene and Tania supplied and from the 1911 Census
I would say that this is the marriage of Frederick and Sarah
Frederick George Bishop
Birth Date: abt 1870
Age: 26
Father's Name: James Bishop
Spouse's name: Sarah Harriet Lavenia Belcher
Spouse's Age: 27
Spouse's Father's Name: William Buffin
Marriage Date: 2 Aug 1896
Marriage Place: Bristol, Gloucestershire, Englan

This is not the correct couple as on Ancestry Frederick George's army record list's his wife and children. Fredrick George William is not one of them

irene i also no that my great grampy my dads grandfather frederick george bishop from avonmouth born brislinton/shirehampton. i think he was married to sarah belcher if i am correct.had connections with the bristol docks and boats or ships and a industry called stevedoreng what ever that is...my dad never got to meet his grandfather because his grandfather disapproved of his father marrying his wife i think the world years ago was a pretty harsh one my family had certainly had a tough one way back then. because nan had a child already.so he offered my gramps a thousand pound to move to austrailia to never see them again.but my gramps just walked away and marryed nan and reared his children and excepted being dissowned by his father saddly the kids where never to see there grandparents either..it must of been the hurtfulist thing my grandad had to except.but my dad always wondered what they done how they lived and what happened to them...

Jim the Ferret - would you please delete the births info from your post? It contains personal info about people born as late as 1941!! Against the rules, and not appropriate, and can be sent by PM, as I believe someone then did.

(And the usual disclaimer:
Yes, the info can be found at sites like FreeBMD and Ancestry.
No, that info will not be found by search engines like posts here will.
And no, those sites do not contain discussions of the details of the personal lives of the family in question as threads here do, and this thread does.)

Wendy.
Your mother can register with NORCAP and also leave a letter with them so that if Colin ever starts to search for his birth mother it can be passed on to him.
She can also do that with the adoption acency that handled his adoption.
And contact the local Social Services for the Chard Somerset area if it was them that did the adoption.

I think these might be the sad deaths of the two young ones (but can't be 100% sure):

Deaths Dec 1926 (>99%)
Bishop Maria F L 5 Frome 5c 458
(Molly is often a nickname for Mary or Maria)

Deaths Mar 1927 (>99%)
Bishop Ronald F E 3 Frome 5c 584

But your dad wasn't born until 1937? Perhaps he remembers talk of them?

To find out what they died of you'd need to send off for the death certificates from GRO - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Wendy, we shouldn't really post details of people who are still living on here, so I'm sending you a message with a list of the 11 children.
