Yes, that's what I found, but it was very faint. But Louisa Annie May Trowbridge was born in 1881 and did marry a Preece, so I find it all a little too coincidental. Interesting that she lists herself as single, but then a lot of people in her family weren't too honest about their marital status! But I couldn't find her after 1910.

Wow, that was a stroke of brilliance! I think that must be her as she was born in London. I think you've solved the mystery!

Do you remember when I asked you a few months ago about a Louisa Annie May Trowbridge who married a Charles Henry Preece and you couldn't find them on the 1911 census? (Well, you probably don't as you look up so many things.) But she was a half-sister of Emily Sara's husband Alfred Collins Sara. (He left a will by the way in 1937, so I suppose more details could be found in that.)

Well, I think I found her listed as Annie May Preece on a Canadian passenger list (Ancestry opened them up for free for a short while several weeks ago), with children Olive May and Henry Charles. But the record was so faint that I couldn't tell if she was married or a widow. They went to Nova Scotia in 1910 (before the census) and then disappeared after that. Any ideas? No sign of husband.

Oh, I just saw your other entries. Yes, I think Alfred and Emily went visiting the US, but Alfred definitely died in the UK.

You should turn professional, you're so good at this.
Hazel.

Thanks Jax! I had thought perhaps Emily Sara went to Australia after the death of her husband in 1937 as I could see a 1953 Australia death for an Emily Sara but no details. I'm not sure about the Uckfield death. I was not aware that Emily had a middle name, and I could never find a birth for her (and all the census records had different dates of birth for her). But I suppose the Uckfield death is a possibility. Thanks!

Thanks for the new info Jax & Cherilyn! I only just realized that people had added to the info.

I see an Emily Sara died in Australia in 1953 - can anybody see more details for that? I think she may have been Ida's mother.

Any children for Alfred or Irene?

Thanks so much,
Hazel.

Well, having now plugged them into my family tree, I see that they all went to Australia! So thanks for providing me with the clues.

TootyFruity

TootyFruity Report 9 Oct 2010 23:57

not that many. There was only 9. I just looked at them individually to see if I could find a possibility. Having Fred board with him was a godsend. I was just looking for Frank married for about 6 years but no wife living with him.

Hazel

Hazel Report 9 Oct 2010 23:48

I wondered how you were able to pinpoint Frank Colyer in 1911 as there were probably a few of them?

Thanks - you've hit the jackpot! How did you find this? Ida's maiden name was Sara and she had a brother named Frederick, so this is them.

Also, I now realize that Annie Cooper is Ida's sister, Annie Sara.

So fantastic, thanks!

Thanks so much, that was fast! I'm sure that's her because she was born in Fulham. She was married to a Frank Colyer, but I don't know anything about him and this only adds to the mystery. I thought this might shed light on whether there were children, but apparently not. Thanks again so much!
