My Tate line has come to a standstill. Help!

My 3x great grandfather was Michael Tate 1788- c1816 - gardener of Southowram on his marriage to Martha Scott. His baptism records states that Wm Tate of Skircoat (Halifax) was his father. I believe that Wm may have had other children Mary b c1791 and John b c1794. The Tates all seem to name their sons Wm, John, Joseph & James so finding the correct Wm is a real challenge.
