I have been looking at it today on the census and trying to work out other names.

The name looks more like Gracelana to me - never heard of that either though. Could it be Grace Lena, or Grace Lana.

safc has come up with the name Graveland Medley maried to William Rowlinson so now I will see if I can find the marriage or info of the ship they sailed on.

Thank you all for finding this information for me.

I do have the marriage of Joseph Medley and Hannah Chadderton

On the 1861 they were living next door to Josephs two sons John and Jacob.

It was the names of Joseph and Hannah children on the 1861 I was having problems with I could not make them all out.

I thought the one daughter name looked like Graveland but I have never heard of it before.

I have not been able to find the family on the 1871 census.

I am very grateful for all the searching you have done for me.

It says daughter on the census though.

if you have the marriage Shirlock, what is the maiden name? if that is Josephs death in '64, then Hannah may have remarried by 1871?

Thought possibly this could this be "Graveland" but there is an Amanda of the right age living next door with John Medley and a 1 year old Melina, who going by the MMN must be the 1859 Malina

Can't find a marriage for Hannah and Joseph... was working on her marrying again before the 1871 so looking for her maiden name .

Thank you for that info 3 of these children were Joseph and Hannahs
children. It was the time of the cotton famine in Oldham when most were out of work.



I do know from Sallys death cert they were in Oldham in 1864. I just cannot find any sign of them on the 1871.
