Correct spelling yes Susan.Yes Andrew a possible but not entirely sure. Why Canada? His father Harry died in 1901.

Thank you andrew, I suppose this would make sense losing his father so young. Perhaps his eldest brother went too, Edwin John born 1892. Thank you for all your help everyone.

The canadian link may be a red herring, but dates and (initials) names fit. He did survive WW1, went home in 1919
