Find Ancestors

Could anyone tell me what part of Manchester this street is on I have a marriage for a william Woodhouse and Maria Kinley married from 34 & 38 Britton Street, I've been in touch with Manchester Archives to see if they could tell me who lived there in 1849 but it's proving difficult to find so they're asking what part of M/c it's in
It would be very helpful if someone could tell me I have old maps of M/c but I can't find it

Manchester is a large place as I'm sure you'll know.....There are many districts....ie: Hulme, Ancoats, Salford and so on....
I can't seem to find it even on the old maps.....

Where were they married ....name of a church might help us with the area

Are you sure it is Briton and not Britain ST ?

ON THE MARRIAGE IT HAD BRITTON STREET, A WHILE AGO I WAS TOLD IT WAS BRITON STREET AND IT WAS ONLY A SMALL STREET,
I COPIED THE MARRIAGE FROM THE LIBRARY AT MANCHESTER BUT DIDN'T LOOK WHAT DISTRICT IT WAS IN

jUST CHECKED ON BMD THEY MARRIED AT mANCHESTER cATHEDRAL SO THAT DOES'NT HELP REALLY

I had ancestors from the Ancoats and Bradford Areas of Manchester married there....

Don't think it's Briddon Street

As I say I was told a while ago it was Briton Street so it has been found in the past think I'll have to try and get in touch with that person

Thanks Richard I've just sent a message to the lady that found it a while ago hopefully she can find it again I know she was looking in the 51/61 census she must have been able to do the look up by street address as she checked the whole street for my family

I have a friend in the USA who originates from the Manchester area and has a few maps.....he found one in the 1850's off London Road Manhester, although it was spelt Britain Street.....

Yes I have seen that one myself ,Just wondering if the census that was found a while ago was spelt wrong!!
On marriage I have Britton Street I was told it was Briton Street and can only find Britain Street

Sorry the census that Briton Street was found was 1841 if I could ask for this census again to see if it is actually there and if possible to find the name of the street next to it then we might stand a chance of finding it on the map to determine the actual name

Just had a look on FMP put in Briton Street and here you go!......

I know the people in it aren't yours but it tells you the area....

Just had a look at the maps for mnchester and it looks like Briton Street is in fact Britain Street, a spelling mistake on the marriage certificate and also on the 1841 census,? but to make sure could I ask for a 51 census street look up for Briton street also Britain street I supose their is a slight possibility the same family Elouise found in 41 are still there

I take it that their isn't a Briton Street then in the 51 census the distrct is the same as the 41 census so it is looking as though it should be Britain street funny to spell it wrong on a marriage certifcate and the census

I suppose the spellings only as good as the person writing it....
Or the people giving the info....

I will send on the copy of the map, although only a small piece does give a couple of nearby street names.....
A friend of mine just sent what he found...
