Choccy,

Yes, Margaret is a prominent name in the family, this looks like you have nailed it.

Been looking for variant surnames of patchit and everything. You're great.

Thanks very much.

Ben.

How about telling us the details of one of Mary's children?

Or even her parents?

Is this the birth to which you refer?

Benjy_Bumble Report 25 Aug 2010 11:06

hi Flick,

To make matters a hell of a lot more confusing, my Mam and Dad turned out to be 3rd cousins lol!

Mary Elizabeth Lewis and John James McAdam are my father's Grandparents on my paternal line, hence my name Ben McAdam.

That marriage in Houghton-le-Spring isn't the same Mary Elizabeth Lewis as I am looking for.

Basically to make things easy to understand, my Grandfather McAdam (Dad's Father) and my Grandfather Lewis (Mam's Father) were 2nd cousins, they're parents were full 1st cousins.

Benjy_Bumble Report 25 Aug 2010 11:02

So we can defo rule out this McCarthy as the husband to one of my Grandfather's Aunty's. Must be another Lewis marrying another McCarthy :S Popular surnames I suppose.

Benjy_Bumble

Benjy_Bumble Report 25 Aug 2010 11:01

Lewis is my mother's maiden name and her paternal line backwards.

My Grandfather Lewis remembered McCarthy, but couldn't remember specifically full names, I already have Mary Elizabeth Lewis in my tree born c1890 in Newbottle, County Durham and when searching the Marriage certs I came across the record above, put two and two together which unfortunately for me has turned out to be five :(

I'm going to keep searching for the marriage for Mary Elizabeth Lewis plus any of her sisters if they married McCarthy too as a matter of co-incidence.

Problem is I'm looking for Mary Elizabeth Atkinson and Mary Elizabeth Patchit to no avail too.

I'll come back.

Ben.
