Hello there,

Can someone please look up for me on the census my relation William Thompson, who was christened at Frodsham, Cheshire on 21 April 1816.

His parents were Philip Thompson and Esther Tollet, and both of his parents died in Runcorn, Cheshire (in 1861 and 1873).

I am asking for a look-up for William in the 1841, 1851, 1861 and beyond until he dies (if he has not died already).

I have found a possibly William Thompson, living in Runcorn in 1881 but this is not confirmed, and without a sub to ancestry I can't check him up on earlier census returns. The name is fairly common also, so selecting him in 1881 is a little sketchy, as he could of died long before this. Can any spot him and confirm he is the William Thompson living in Runcorn in 1881?

wow, thank you Pam! That was quick and what wonderful information for me! Well, it does seems as though this is my relation and the census work does tally with the 1881, which you also kindly posted!

I think William is the one who died in 1888 as that is the closest age. Thank you!

I wonder if William's marriage was the one to Sarah Jones in St. Peter, Chester, Cheshire in 1841! I found this on the IGI and although the location doesn't match, the date would! Did people often marry away from their hometown?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but whilst we are on the subject, can I ask for a census look-up for William's brother Philip. I found his baptism on the IGI Pilot Record's site and Philip was baptised in the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Great Budworth, Cheshire on 3rd March 1826. To be honest, I know nothing of him and I can't find anything offical on 1881, so perhaps he died young.

I'm just wondering if he lived to be an adult but perhaps died before 1881? Or maybe I have just missed him on the 1881!

Hi Pam and thank you for this great info; it is really helpful to me! Wow!

Oddly, the marriage for Philip Thompson in 1865 is for Philip junior's father! He was widowed in 1861 and remarried to Catherine Hesketh in 1865, quite a few years his junior. He was well into his late 70s by this point. For some reason Catherine does not appear on the marriage index but I do have the cert, and it appears on the IGI pilot website.

For Philip juniors wife; she was called Hannah Thompson born c. 1824 in Wiston Cheshire. I looked for her in 1881 but no sign and so I looked for a death between 1871-1881 but nothing stood out. Have I just missed her or is she in 1891?

The reason Catherine does not appear with Philip on the Freebmd entry is an incorrect page number. It should be 256 and they have 254 against the entry for Catherine Hesketh. Having checked the page numbers elsewhere I have put in a correction.
