If you buy some credits £6 for 30 - 1 credit to view search result and 5 to view / download register entries you will them be able to view Robert's birth entry. Scottish birth entries give the date and place of the parent's marriage. you can then look at his parents marriage entry. Their marriage will give you their ages and parent's names including the mother's maiden surname. If his parents remained in Scotland their death certiificates also give their parent's names including mothers maiden surname if the informant knew the details.

Hoggan is not a very common name in Scotland so you should be able to find the entries at very little cost.

Robert who married in 1919 was almost certainly the son of Preston Hoggan...a completely different family. Preston doesn't 'fit in' anywhere with Sarah

You don't know yet that the 1911 marriage is in any way connected..........you need to get Sarah's birth cert, to find out her mother's details

Never jump to conclusions.......always work from facts

Robert Hoggan the publican who is on 1911 census, is Robert JUNIOR....meaning that his father's name was also ROBERT
