Find Ancestors

I am currently trying (and failing) to find my great nan's birth record.
Her name was Margaret Ann Bell and she was from Folkestone Kent.
She married aged 19 in july 1915 (her birthday was Nov so she would have been aged 20 later that year) to a Jesse Jarvis, this means she would have been born in 1895. I searched this year but couldn't find anything.
On her marriage certificate there is no information on her father, so i can't search for him either!
I then got hold of her death certificate that states she was born in Nov 1901!! Even though the dates don't add up i searched this year aswell and still can't find anything.
I remember my grandad saying once that he thought she may have been born in a workhouse but he cant be sure!
I really don't want to give up but i feel i have hit a brick wall, i would be grateful if anyone could help me!

Do you have her address on the cert, and names of witnesses?

yes her address was 15 mead road, folkestone.
The 2 witnesses were: Margaret Jarvis (who would have been a relation to Jesse) and Rosien Thorning..i have no idea who she is!

Address didn't help. Have found this, who knows!

If I were a betting man my guess would be that she was the daughter of Esther J Bell shown as age 22 above.

Right, this is them 1901. This Margaret is described as daughter though presumably not. Might be worth considering as it would fit with no father around.

I think Esther J Bell is looking very likely to be Margaret's mum, it would add up as to why Margaret is living with her nan and grandad in 1911 (and still has the family name).
But i wonder what happened to her mum and why i still can't find her birth record? Any ideas where to go from here?

this is brilliant! I think you guys are spot-on..looking at the second marriage made me remember that my grandad used to talk about a 'granny knight'!!
So that would make sense, all i need now is the birth record for margaret...

Good news about "Granny Knight" - must be your Margaret then.
Michael might well have the birth record - it would fit her age on census (and birthday elsewhere!). And likely Esther (if it's her) would have gone elsewhere to give birth. Might be worth getting the cert.

Ok, so the next thing for me to do is order the birth certificate to see if that is her! i suppose Greenwich isn't too far from Kent...it will be so lovely to get to solve the mystery of Margaret Ann Bell!!
